The easiest way to tell if it is a scam is how the email is addressed. Companies will individually address you, eg "Dear Chris," not "Dear Customer".

Now some scams are better than this, yet for most this is the easiest way to immediately detect scam.

Forward the email to the actual company. Check their website for the correct email.

I used to get those from TD and I don't even bank with them.

u gotta be a noob at the internet to fall for these

simsimi1004 07-21-2010 07:07 PM

Got one from TD, HSBC, Scotia within the last 3month.
the links on the email is not what it directs too. if u look at the left corner bottom when ur mouse hovers over the link its a different one.

We should be spending our resources to catch these fuckers online rather than ordinary people who download movies. Pisses me off seeing how people can easily fall for this.

got the one from TD a few months back
the funny thing is the link it directs you to is www._______.cn (China website)

I'm not even a TD/Scotiabank customer, and I keep getting a whackton of these. What I ended up doing was forwarding every single one to the phishing department of TD or Scotiabank (phishing@td.com or something).

What I also did was actually went on (at a school computer) and filled the form out with random information, such as "THIS IS A FUCKING SCAM" for first name, and 000013370000 for the account number.

They stopped coming, haven't seen one for weeks now.
