Warning to scotiabank users

just a little heads up, i have received the following email, i felt this was kind of fishy, and i think it might be a scam.
i nor any of my family members use scotia bank, so i shouldnt have received this email.
and again, banks will NEVER ask u for ANY personal information, especially via the internet.

the link looks correct in the email, which look identical to the actual scotia bank link that i just checked,
but upon highlighting the link to click, this shows up

h**p://ip-208-109-110-86.ip.secureserver.net:8000/h**ps://www.scotiaonline.scotiabank.com/online/start.jsp?language=&first=true

i suspect when u click it, traffic gets routed through an unknown computer which will collect ur login and password.

Send it in to Scotiabank themselves and they might release a Memo statement to all Scotiabank users. Do people some deed.

PC banking sorta does the same thing. If I log on with a different IP address than before, it will ask me a security question.

This is a very common scam over the internet called phishing. They just send out mass emails where the link is pointed to a scammer's site made to look exactly the same as the real deal. However when you login, it'll track your username/password and thats how they gain access to your account.

Weird thing is, i've gotten those emails from Scotia bank, TD, Royal Bank and I think HSBC asking you to check your account because it has been suspended or locked in because of security reasons :S

Some of them even tell you go to to one of the branches to check it out... but I am not with any one of them = /

You'd have to be fairly ignorant to fall for this.

If you are worried just call your bank. Never ever go on to a site like that a bank will never send out a email in all cases they will call you before anything else.

Okay guys, these emails fool a lot of people hence why they still make them. Some people really believe it since everything "looks" real. Just because you know doesn't mean everyone who uses a damn computer would know. It doesn't hurt to inform people about these things, especially if it has to deal with scamming/phishing confidential information.

I got a similar email before for PC.
First I thought it was real, but then I realized that instead of showing my last four digits of my PC card, it showed the first 12 digits.
I knew then it was a scam and ignored it.
Also, PC normally calls you when they notice that there are irregular transactions in your account.
So read the email carefully, you will notice that things don't make sense and don't click on any links given on that email.

I received one of these emails from BMO, and I knew it was kind of weird. I clicked the link, and it was reported as a dangerous/attack site, so I didn't exactly go in. What should I do now? Will they collect my login/pw next time I log in?

I'd say older people usually fall for this. My parents might fall for this if they receive this email.

Got ones for TD (who I stopped banking with years ago), and just recently for my Hotmail account. You have to be retarded not to see that they say "Dear (insert e-mail address here)", rather than Dear "your name".

Yeah, my LEGAL name in the TD bank registry is "bradfordchowiscool@hotmail.com". (note I'm just exaggerating, we all know bradford is a dumbass)
