The easiest way to tell if it is a scam is how the email is addressed. Companies will individually address you, eg "Dear Chris," not "Dear Customer".

Now some scams are better than this, yet for most this is the easiest way to immediately detect scam.

Forward the email to the actual company. Check their website for the correct email.

I used to get those from TD and I don't even bank with them.

We should be spending our resources to catch these fuckers online rather than ordinary people who download movies. Pisses me off seeing how people can easily fall for this.

I'm not even a TD/Scotiabank customer, and I keep getting a whackton of these. What I ended up doing was forwarding every single one to the phishing department of TD or Scotiabank (phishing@td.com or something).

What I also did was actually went on (at a school computer) and filled the form out with random information, such as "THIS IS A FUCKING SCAM" for first name, and 000013370000 for the account number.

They stopped coming, haven't seen one for weeks now.
