As I said before... it's not what you've got on your car... it's who you know.

i think ppl should start spending more money on their cars if u want shows like this to keep coming back
cuz
if ur car looks the same every show, and it's the same car winning the same thing every show, ppl that paid $20 to enter the event will no longer be interested, the less ppl pay to go in the less NOISE the sponsors get, the sponsors don't get what they wanted, then they won't come back next year, shows won't happen, it's simple as that......
so i think if ppl want to have these shows again 3 - 4 times a year like 4-5 years ago....ppl gota spend their money !~

^ people are looking for completely different things nowadays when they see a car though. As long as it gets you from A to B in good comfort and style AND it doesn't burn a hole in your wallet it's a good car.

in terms of CLASS it's difficult to surpass the factory tuners (talking about AMG, Alpina, Brabus, Quattro, TRD, Nismo etc), so not many even bother. In terms of style it's a love-it-or-hate-it deal.

Abundant information on the internet also takes out the crowd that thinks "If I put 50g in my Civic I can beat a 100G Ferrari, so it's a good deal!" so that's a bunch of people (albeit moronic people) gone.

People who massively stylize their econoboxes will soon find out that you can't live with them on a day to day basis you worry about getting the car dinged you worry about speed bumps you worry about stone chips, you miss your air conditioning etc...

In theory for the tuner market to thrive first of all the "tuner car" has to be a second car. And then the tuner market has to have momentum (back then how much money of the economy was put into a Civic to make 100FWHP? People raced their cars on back roads and drag strips, then came the drifting thing. With this activity saturating the media in movies, TV shows and discovery channel shows, you have to agree with me that it went too mainstream for its own good. Drifting tends to beat the crap out of your "modified car" as well. VIP came along later but with no local parts maker it remain a very niche market for VIP accessories product...then now it's just everyone doing their own thing...) A "movement" is necessary to keep this tuner scene going and currently there isn't one (you can say it's "time attack" but that doesn't happen in Pacific NW) so the market is really slow...

People don't have as much hard earned money to spend on their cars now either after the economy went bust, so the first point of having a second car that you can tune and modify becomes really difficult, a DD tuner car is, in reality, a chick-repulse-magnet and not very friendly on the streets. Those who do have money knows to start off with a very fast platform from showroom and the best way to make it faster is to "not touch the damn thing" or invisible mods like a chip tune

It's a difficult situation.

Because $20 is ridiculous to pay for a show right? Or the $50 or so entry fee for your car? If you can't afford either then you should stop going to Starbucks so much and save your coins.

I haven't been to a show like DTP in years, so it might be good to go again. What the hell. If for nothing else then to support the scene.

And all this talk about HIN... makes me remember going to Seattle YEARS ago for the very first time and being amazed. The quality of cars there was nuts. Sure a lot of them weren't my thing, but I sure as hell can appreciate the work that went into them. Not to mention all the free shit I scored! Made the cost of admission worth it!

I'm gonna go as a spectator this year only, but wondering are the judges still JDM whores ?

the only question I remember the judge asking my friends and me about our cars was if we had any JDM parts, he didn't ask anything else.

I found that pretty funny, and I understand JDM is a big thing in the tuning community but there has been quite a few other developments in the modified world since the 90's and early 2000 when JDM'ing was the most gangster shit you could do to your ride

I don't think that's the same show. Driven To Perform is sponsored by Toyo Tires (historically anyway.)

But I may be wrong.

Unless you can come up with the 5 figure budget shortfall (not enough sponsors) I wouldn't talk.
