propane, coal, electric - is there really a diff in flavour/quality of cooking w/ the meat?

i have friends telling me it's propane or nothing. I never understood that, i figure it's the cook not the heating method, unless you like the your meat have that smoky flavour from coal.

Johnstones is good. I bought a large Weber charcoal grill from them a few years ago. It's good for parties, but a bit large for a condo.

For everyday, personal use, I had one of those $50 grills from Costco. I've gone through a few of those. The current one was in shambles. The heat spreader was completely rusted, and the burner was warped, causing uneven heating areas.

For a replacement, I bit the bullet and spent almost $200 on a small Weber Q100 propane grill. It was totally worth it, and I'm kicking myself for not getting a Weber sooner. I can tell this baby is going to last a while. It is built solid. Grilling on it is so much more awesome compared to the Costco grill. I use it several times a week for chicken and steak.

If you are getting a small grill, make sure you purchase an adapter hose that'll let you connect it to a regular size propane tank. Otherwise, you'll be spending all your money on those little Coleman bottles.

yea with a $30 burner :P

OP, it's worth it to spend 300-400 on a decent BBQ because if you buy the shit $150 canadian tire special etc. the burner wont last more than a year, lid will begin to flake etc.

I got mine at Home Depot... I Bought one of the weber's as I wanted a bbq that would last me 10+ years instead of 2 like the ones I've owned before. Weber has a phenomenal warranty on their products and I highly recommend them.

propane is for quick cooking when you dont have time to sit around drinking a beer relaxing.

Coal is great for slow cooking making the meat nice and tender and giving that great smoked flavour. My dad has a Q called the big green egg which is just awesome to slow cook a roast for 8hrs and making pulled pork.

costco or walmart in the USA. You can get a big BBQ for much less than what it costs up here for the same. Dollar is looking good, so it is worth the trip

I bought the Weber Q320 last year and it is a solid BBQ. Surprisingly fits a lot more meat than I thought it could.

Once you go Weber you don't go back

Make sure you treat the cast iron grills properly!

1. Costco - limited selection but great value
2. Canadian tire - lots of selection.

I got a portable Weber at C. Tire with a cast iron grilling surface and a secure matching stand. Love it.

Rona has some pretty nice stuff. Even better when they have sales during the summer time for specific Weber grills.
Prices are not the best, but Weber BBQ are aweSOME!

by the way, I HEART BBBQ.
