If those idiots running translink would've used money to install a turnstile system at skytrain stations during the Olympics they wouldn't need to jack up the prices to "make up" for lost $$$.

Instead they ding the people who are honest and are actually paying to use the public transit.

Or who knows.. maybe the increase in rates are to keep up with their ridiculous pay for board members:

Members of a newly-established TransLink board of directors will be paid $1,200 per meeting -- a whopping $1,000 more than what directors were paid last year.

But Mike Harcourt, a former B.C. premier who chaired the independent advisory committee that decided on the pay hike, said the new wage reflects the calibre of the new board.

jtanner_ 03-15-2010 07:18 PM

Wow... a $1000 increase over last year? That's ridiculous..

I bet this was in their plans all along. Not install turnstiles, and instead charge everyone more. Greedy f@gs. The public transit system here compared to HK sucks so much more, it's cheaper and much more efficient in hk.

:lol:lol

as for the hike in fees, this was probably planned all along to increase after the olympics and the plan was confirmed when they saw the spike in transit users and continued use even after the main olympics are over

Even more reason to not pay and to cheat the system. You pay and you're still charged more so why bother?

I'm glad I drive everywhere now instead of taking transit.

AVS_Racing 03-15-2010 07:28 PM

mmmmmm driving FTW

Gunsmokez 03-15-2010 07:30 PM

OMG WTF!!!!!!!!

Oh wait, haven't taken a bus for over 10 years. So Who gives a shit!! Power to the Union!!

jerche 03-15-2010 07:41 PM

On the plus side, I heard that all students enrolled in post secondary schools are eligible to get U-Passes this coming fall which saves a lot of money for students that commute via translink!

Gnomes 03-15-2010 07:42 PM

The old board members used to get $200/meeting and now $1200?! Holy fricking @#$%!

TOPEC 03-15-2010 07:45 PM

So how long are the meetings and what do they do there? Meeting once a year? Hopefully not once a week or once a month

Thanks!

Would really suck if it would be cheaper driving out to SFU than bussing.

orange7 03-15-2010 08:20 PM

Seriously, I don't understand what translink is trying to do.

First they raised parking fees and placed tolls on bridges.
Next they increased bus fare even more.

What the efff are they trying to do? Have everyone stay home 24/7 ???

from an economic standpoint, they are making no sense.

cococly 03-15-2010 09:13 PM

Nothing affecting U-pass, YET...

I don't use my U-pass too often, so I guess it's fine :)

3seriesBeeM 03-15-2010 09:27 PM

This is one thing I dont understand. They tell encourage everyone to use transit everywhere they go and yet ever year its the same thing they hike up the fees. I am glad I drive

Really?
They're trying to make money. What the fuck else do you think they're doing?

hirevtuner 03-15-2010 09:39 PM

olympics over, now the milk taxpayer money

ASG111 03-15-2010 09:41 PM

FUCK TRANSLINK! Fucking greedy dogs!

maxxxboost 03-15-2010 09:42 PM

The price we pay to live in BC.
I bet after 4 years, they'll jack up the prices again!
They'll never have "enough" money
They need to seriously find out the problem instead of just charging the people that pay their salary.
