ive always said old people shouldn't be allowed do drive, past 70-75 there licences should be taken away.

i've been thinking since i got my license that people over 65 should be retested ever 2-3 years to make sure they can still drive.

i think they should have a test... at the very least...

Good stuff take their licenses away or retest them if they still want to drive

Everyone thinks it's a good idea till they turn 65 themselves and their license is taken away.
I'm all for getting more checkups when your older though to make sure they are still ok to drive...otherwise middleaged Chinese women should be stripped of their licenses as well...same logic, they can't drive right

This sounds like a awesome idea now when we are young, but when we reach that age, we have to prepare to have our freedom taken away. But I am all for retesting!

I'm all for taking a test annually/bi-annually, not only does it endanger others, it would also endanger ME AND MY grand kids (when I take them out). If you are not fit to do something, you are not fit, there is nothing to whine about.

While I agree with getting seniors off the road, this idea will never fly. It's age discrimination. They should just implement re-testing people every 5 - 10 years.

I think people are a little harsh on that front. My mom is 64 and I would hate to see her have to retest for a drivers license at 65. I'm happy to re-examine that thinking at 75ish. Are older drivers really causing that many accidents?

its probably more than just accidents. Seniors tend to drive slower and are less aware of their surrounding.
But then again so are most incompetent vancouver drivers.

If this was in HKG, or somewhere with an amazing public transportation system. I'd say we make the testing and withholding license work.

Communities out in the boonies? Interiors? It will never fly and nor should it.

Once you put limitation on people, it's no democracy anymore.

Testing however, for things like eye sight and muscle disorders and not allowing them to drive. Totally agreement.

Most logical post of the thread! As much as I wouldnt want to be re-tested, it would be the only way to get around the discrimination part. Plus it may help get some poorer drivers off the road. Although I'm not sure how some people got their licences to begin with...could end up being the same with half the driving test people taking bribes?

i disagree about the age discrimination. that's similar to saying flying schools discriminate people with poor eye sight.

I don't agree with it either, but this is Canada, and the discrimination argument will shut down this idea quickly.

mandatory testing for everyone every 5 years. i see no negative in this.
no discrimination, generates revenue, changes in traffic laws can be implemented more quickly, can be used to weed out those who are unfit to drive, keep everyone's skills in check

^ only problem with this is that I find the tests aren't examining the proper things.
So it wouldn't matter how often tests there are.

People are taught to drive slow, not better.
It's a misconception of slow being safe.
