328i with 6speed and ZSP is a totally different beast then 328i AT. Have you ever sat inside a 328i and a 335i? How is the "quality" different? The interior is the same and the exterior is the same except for the exhaust...

I will agree that people that drive low-end/entry level cars are poseurs. Lots of entry level cars are stripped though with basically nothing which is even more poseur-esque ;)

if i bought a 3 series id have no qualms in getting the base model since i just like the look and i dont care about any of the tech or engine upgrades the other models carry

this way of thinking is just as bad as the person who buys any car because they think it gives them some sort of "class"

well, is not like they are discontinuing their old models of RWD's...

a good move for bmw bringing in more options for their buyers. im sure 70% of BMW drivers won't know or care about whether or not their car is RWD or FWD.. if it means easier drivabliity in winter , im sure a lot will get FWD instead of RWD.

as for me, i will stick with RWD :)

Some FWD cars are pretty nifty, look at the Mazda3, GTI.

If BMW can manage to pull something comparable to the Mazda3 or GTI then it'll be a great hit.

guys there is nothing wrong with a 323i. it has one of the best resale values for a car. You get the brand name and you win on resale value not to mention IT's A BMW!!

No dude, Mercedes Benz gave my mom a B-Class as a courtesy car, and thinking that I could beat the shit out of it and have a lot of fun with it so I borrowed it out. One of the worst cars I've ever driven. Everything inside feels like crap. It doesn't even have the heavy gas pedal like the other Mercedes Benzes do, it felt like I was driving a fucking Yaris. I went home and took my car out instead. It was far worse than sitting in a bathtub.

I agree that most C-lais who drive a BMW, Mercedes, Audi or whatever in Richmond don't even know the difference betewen FWD, RWD, or AWD. I've actually seen this guy pull up next to me in a B-Class, walk like hes so balling, sits down and throws his keys on the table showing the Mercedes Benz Logo, then just ordering one of the cheapest things on the menu. I had a good laugh out of it.

Most people who buy these cars don't care about the drivetrain...and arguably the FWD won't make it any safer since they never turn off VSA/ESP/TC/etc anyway.

And I must agree that the B-Class is pure shit.

I guess a FWD BMW wouldn't be too bad if they can make it drive better than a GTI

Yeah it is noticeably cheaper, I've had a few loaners before and it's definitely not as solid as even the C. With that said, some people like "4 doors, extra trunk space, but smaller than minivan". The fact you see so many on the road tells me that MB's marketing department knows a bit more about what people want than RS. ;)

Actually the thing that irked me the most about the B was their "tiptronic" function. It's different from the C and ML, and maybe the other ones as well. Anyone else notice this?

The "prestige" MB commands is all about a carefully-crafted image, just like "sporty" for BMW and "reliable" (well, not so much anymore :lol) for Toyota, "econobox" for Honda, etc etc. In Germany, E-classes are used as Taxis, so you could say they're like the German equivalent of Crown Victorias ie nothing special. ;)

Good on BMW for developing FWD cars. It's really just another market where they currently have 0% share at the moment, so the only way they can really go is up as soon as someone buys that 1st car off the assembly line.
