Passport

My passport expires in June, and I was planning to go to the states in a few days but i was told by someone that my passport has to have atleast 6 months left to enter the states. Is this true? I would renew my passport but I've lost my ID's and that would take a couple weeks and I was looking to leave on tuesday.

More than 6 months left is only for international flights.

Went to the states the other week with less than 6 months left on passport no problem.

when did you lose your IDs? no DL at all? have you been driving? have you reported them as lost? in any case, you can pay the passport office to get your passport rushed to you. but with no back up ID, that might be a bit difficult to get. best bet is the obvious suggestion: call passport canada.

so in case you get stuck you wouldn't be left without travel documentation to get on an airplane. It's more or less also, to prevent people from travelling on a passport that is going to expire in two days

Fyi flying to the states is an international flight. Passport is not even needed for domestic flights.

You can get your passport renewed pretty quickly, they have an "express" renewal process, it took me I think 7 business days (I'm in Victoria though) and it was no extra cost. They mail it to you express as well.

There's also an urgent, which you can get almost immediately (wait for an hour or so). But you would need to show a proof of travel for that to happen (and if course you have to pay more... forgot the cost, sorry!)

Do you have to get everything signed again to renew your passport or do you just need to bring in a current photo? mine expires in July as well and I have never had to renew it before.

If the passport is less than 6 years old ( from the day you re-apply ) and you were over 16 years of age when you got the passport, you can do a renewal.

No need to show ID. Just old passport.

Easy and simple.

No you will be fine.

You must of had your passport for atleast 6 months if you plan to travel to other countries... But this doesn't count when traveling to the states, as long as it's good your good to go.
