Yes there will be.

J-Chow 03-19-2010 12:57 PM

IIRC, if your laptop was made in either US/CAN/ Mexico, then no duty.

If it's made elsewhere, then yes there is duty.

sonick 03-19-2010 12:58 PM

Even if it was made in North America with no duties via NAFTA, you would still have to pay canadian taxes on top of the american taxes you paid to begin with.

BIG 03-19-2010 12:58 PM

Hmm... I'm assuming the parts are made overseas but put together in the States? Does that make a difference?

Considering the savings on this deal and the dollar almost at par, it would still be worth buying IMO no?

50% off the US MSRP will still be cheaper even if you have to pay duties.

You might as well buy it.

Depends on how cheap the sale is to begin with, I don't know how much that particular laptop goes for in Canada, so its your call. And I am pretty sure dell laptops are assembled in China.

I'm leaning toward this.

So you save 50%, but pay 25% taxes on what you save.. :S

Not a bad deal if you're in need of one, but if you already have a fine working laptop, I'd pass.

fishing666 03-19-2010 04:08 PM

msrp rip off price anyways. laptops depreciate faster than new cars

InvisibleSoul 03-19-2010 06:34 PM

So much bad information in the thread.

There shouldn't be any duty on laptops, regardless of where it's made.

There WILL be your standard GST and PST though.

Gunsmokez 03-19-2010 08:24 PM

Or just do yourself a favor and call customs yourself.

thats really expensive for a mediocre laptop, even at 50% off. I'd rather pay a few hundred more and get an Asus UL series from ncix.

StylinRed 03-19-2010 11:05 PM

u dont have to pay duties on computers

just sales tax

flagella 03-19-2010 11:25 PM

no duties I believe. Just tax

_Hotsauce_ 03-20-2010 12:50 AM

+1

no extra duties for all electronics.

godwin 03-20-2010 01:29 AM

Make sure WA doesn't collect sales tax from Dell. ala Amazon.

There will be tax if ordering from Dell. Any company that has a presence in the State that it's being shipped to will charge sales tax.
