Off-Leash Parks So who has some good/favorite off-leash parks to share?? We found a great one recently in Cloverdale that we've been telling everyone about... but it's always good to have options! For example, at 188th St. and 70th Ave. is the Clayton Dog Park, several acres that was bequeathed by the land owner to the city to be used for just this purpose. It's a huge fenced-in area with woods in the back and open grassy areas in front, fresh water fountains, and best of all, a separate small-dog area. For the humans, there's a good-sized parking lot, a rest-stop-style toilet kiosk, paved walking loops, and benches. Pitt Meadows has a fairly nice area in the middle of Hoffman Park too, but the problem we have when taking our little guys there is that any more than two big dogs, and they just get overwhelmed - the big guys start running and chasing and it's all they can do to just stay out of the way. A separate area just for the little dogs is fantastic. Any other recommendations or favorite places?? |

Langley Off-leash park. The city has set this up. It's fully fenced, and large with a gravel path around the whole park. There is dog bags supplied, and trash bins around the inside of the park. There is a water fountain for ppl and dogs that is turned on in the summer. it is off of 207th roughly around 49ave. you have to go down 208th to 48th ave, then turn right onto 207th. |
Burnaby - Confederation park - Has enclosed dog parks for both big and small dogs.. Good for a daily walk and meet some other dogs. Not huge but big park. Wood chip paths and grass field and has doggy water fountain. Port Moody- Butzen Lake - Fenced off dog part that goes to the lake.. Good for dogs who like swimming. Also some trail hiking supposed to be leashed but most owners off leash - Favorite spot when I have time to drive out here. East Van - just north of SW Marine drive and Kerr. There is a small parking lot that connects to a few off leash dog trails. mostly Gravel trails, muddy when wet. Good for group walks. Bring your own water! |

I good park is Robert Burnaby Park (Burnaby) if you like walking in the woods, as well as MacDonald Beach in Richmond for the beach outings. |
There's a new park in PoCo, on Shaughessy just north of Prairie... nice fenced small area, and a mostly-fenced large area (due to be completely fenced by the end of April). Lots of trees... wood-chip-and-gravel trails... benches and picnic tables. http://www.portcoquitlam.ca/Dynamic/Page4848.aspx http://www.portcoquitlam.ca/Dynamic/....aspx?did=8485 |
Here's a list of off-leash dog areas in Surrey: http://www.surrey.ca/Living+in+Surre...as/default.htm |
^Good list, but out of date - the "Cloverdale" park in mentions as being at "Construction Stage" is the one I mentioned in the original post - it's open and has been for a few months. |

Do people really leash the dogs on the trail? Posted via RS Mobile |
Richmond sure isn't offleash friendly. |
We take our dog to McDonald Beach in Richmond, Confederation Park, Robert Burnaby Park, and Kits beach (the off-leash area is west of the Maritime Museum) We also take her to Lynn Valley for hikes. |

I never got around to finishing this, but I think I have most of the lower mainland off leash parks listed on a interactive google map. feel free to add any that I missed. http://www.doglantis.com/ - The map should still work (I will add northshore later) |
I use the off leash parks at the end of gilbert in richmond but some of the dog owners up there piss me off. I have two well behaved dogs that stick to my hip on or off leash but so many dog owners just let their dogs run amok with no manners. |

There is a off-leash park that's mostly fenced in. It's right behind Continental Plaza. Not too many dogs though. There is another place you could take him near Templeton St. by the airport that is fenced in. Mostly larger dogs there. |
behind continental plaza, is it this area? http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&sourc...04656&t=h&z=18 where is the area at templeton? |
Yup that's the place. Usually on weekends during the summer, there's a few dogs there, but otherwise your usually alone to play fetch with your dog. Great place cause it's not that far from central Richmond. http://maps.google.ca/maps?q=49.1924...,0.002411&z=19 Here's the area by Templeton St, near Miller Road. I usually see the larger dogs here. |
sweet! thnx! |
No one mentioned about the one near metrotown? David Gray Park - 7480 McKay Avenue It's a large off-leash park. Its fenced too. Usually see more medium size dogs than x-large and small sized dogs. It's usually busy after 4pm on weekdays and it's really busy on Saturdays. Perfect place on sunny days. I stole this from our local eskimo website that met up at David Gray Park. http://www.americaneskimodogs.org/im...gs_video_4.JPG http://www.americaneskimodogs.org/david_gray_park.htm and I video of the park if you really care |
