If your not a handyman get it installed. I previously work at A&B sound for 6 years

* Ask FS if TV breaks and they install, do they come get it?
* If you dont have a PROPER snake to run wires PAY someone to do this
* If your looking for cheaper, talk to a freelancer, generally youll get better wiring and the job will be cheaper

If your looking for someone DM me, have lots of friends

like i said... insurance is the biggest factor in the cost. Some people just can't be bothered to do it themselves too. I'm not arguing that its not easy. Hell I know I can do it myself. I don't know what your argument to my quote is though.

Having them run the wires and installing the TV yourself save what $100 bux and then you can throw out any warranty on there part of the install.

My point is insurance on WHAT? check the fine print on the wall mount, it should cover against damages caused by its failure should it fail. Like I said before, if you can work a screwdriver and a studfinder, oh and being able to read a couple instruction might help, then it will not fall. So having insurance on a wall mount installation is like buying those product service plans, completely useless unless you're retarded.

BTW, if your going to get it installed, get it installed by the futureshop kingsway team. Number one installer team in Canada for home theatre.

Thanks for the heads up. I did buy everything from the FS@Kingsway, but not sure if I have that team though?

I've done countless multi media home installs $650 is more then fair if in fact all wires are concealed and run through the walls.
Is there a crawl space beneath where you are installing everything or is there attic access above or are you in an apartment?
Also if you use your fireplace I strongly recommend against installing your screen above it the heat will fuck it up.

The mount failing and the mount failing because of poor installation are two completely different things. Product service plans are good for high ticket items. You've obviously never had a TV fail on you before and be out a couple thousand dollars.

Some people just don't feel comfortable doing these things either. That's why they get someone else to do it, for piece of mind. Just because you think it's a stupid cost and stupid easy doesn't mean it is for everyone. I don't know why everyone likes to force their view of things on everyone else. So because you know how to "work a screwdriver and a studfinder, oh and being able to read a couple instruction" that makes everyone who doesn't feel comfortable doing it a retard? I'm not saying that it's not easy, I'm saying that people will pay for things they feel are worth it. Just chill, it's not like it's your money the OP is spending.

The price of the install is market value like I said earlier. OP isn't getting ripped off nor is he getting a killer deal.

There's this spiffy new thing called a warranty, it covers items that are defective. Electronics with a fault will typically fail quite quickly. I won't get into the details of why psp's are a wait of money here though.

I'm trying to point out that it is a fairly simple task, and if you aren't fully comfortable with doing it yourself chances are you know someone who can give you a hand. Depending on your house wiring can be either dead simple or very complex, but mounting a TV on the wall is fairly consistently simple.

I don't have a crawl space as I'm in a town home with no basement. I think 650 is fair as well....

I should go with it.

GENERALLY, if you didn't purchase product service plan, here on (PSP), and the tv breaks. If the TV is broken because of the work done to install it, ie (mounting work fails and tv drops yes) if TV has a problem, and you do not have PSP then no. As PSP for appliances and tvs are ON SITE.

Say, You might save 100~150 around.

But with all the hassles, time, and risk...........

Some people might think its worth it, some people might not.
In the end, I would say, its simply a piece of mind that you are buying.

Everyone has different thoughts.......
Depends on what kind person you are.

It's amazing how no one can do anything for themselves now a days! It's also amazing how people can rationalize paying someone 650 bucks to hook up a damn TV!!! You can learn how to do anything these days ie:

It probability takes more know how to program a PVR then it does to install a TV on a wall mount

Here's how to install a power plug next to the tv:

http://hd.engadget.com/2007/09/21/ho...ll-mounted-tv/

Here's how to run speaker wires thru a wall:

Google is your friend people.

I got my 46" 3D LED Sammy installed by vanmedia install (google them). Extrmemly helpful dudes. I had mine mounted over the fireplace which was an extra $50 as opposed to FS ridiculous price of $500 for over a fireplace. Ended up costing me $440 after taxes. I also had them program my universal remote so you can take $20 off of that price.

Cman333 03-25-2010 06:30 PM

Remember his install is not just a mounting over a fireplace. There's In-ceiling speakers which need to be installed and have wires run which isn't a super easy task.

^^ was just going to say wiring shit up isn't all that easy. i did my own house and it was a major pain in the ass. running hdmi, 3 sets of speaker wire, and a wii IR cable from one end of the room to the back SUCKS in an old house.

if i had the money, i'd definitely hire someone to do it for me. in fact, i'm still not completely done the wiring, because i just got pissed off at it. lol.

wall mounting is pretty easy though -- the most difficult thing of that is finding exactly what level you want your tv to be at. you need 2 people though.
