$650 for 55" LED Installation on fireplace plus 4 speakers surround sound too exp?

Guys,

Do you think $650 for 55" LED on fireplace plus 4 speakers on ceiling with all concealed wires expensive or a good deal? This is from Futureshop whom I assume would honor their work if anything falls apart?

Thanks!

well what are they doing?

are they running the wires through the walls? are they installing wall plates for HDMI etc.?

is your TV going on a bracket or are they just sitting it on a shelf above your fireplace?

any other details would help do the estimate

If they are running the wires in the walls then its about right if they do a good job. I would not go with in ceiling speakes. Having sound come from above you is not a good idea.

thats pretty much market value (from most installation companies) if they are running the wires.. also depends on the mount you have (swivel or flush).

Yes, they are running wires through the walls. TV is going on a bracket above the fireplace.

exactly. everyone knows that the majority of the money is going towards insurance and maybe 1/3 to 1/2 of it is going to the company. then minus the cost of labour and theres pretty much nothing left. Sure someone else can do it for half the money but if it falls you're out a lot more than $600 whereas if it was covered by insurance you get a new tv.

Mounting the TV is easy running the wires threw the wall is the harder part.

BTW, if your going to get it installed, get it installed by the futureshop kingsway team. Number one installer team in Canada for home theatre.

LOL, my point is anyone with a brain can do it. We're not talking brain surgery or even building a deck it's running a few wires through the wall and screwing a mount to the studs in the wall. I was just suggesting maybe he'd want to save some money because it's so fucking easy and perhaps he didn't realize just how simple it is?

I'll gladly do it and take responsibility for it but you pay the $650 for my time please, cash only. It's win win, he gets his shit installed and you look like a winner because I did it for him on your suggestion.

I would not use futureshop, they fucked up my friends place when they cut the hole to big for his speakers now he has a gap. I dont think the price is that high.
I used Van-Media Install twice. Both times they did a great job and price was fair.

If you have the money and don't want to do it yourself, just get it installed by someone else. Like some previous posters have said, if it gets fucked up at least it will be covered by insurance.

Audio/Video Unlimited in Langley? Maybe check their price. If I was doing it, I'd pay someone to do it too just because it's on them if anything goes wrong.

Not everybody is handy and think it's "stupid easy". Fucking up can cost more than getting it done professionally in the first place.

If you can't work a cheap studfinder and a screwdriver you're a fucking idiot (oh and a level might be a good idea too). Anyone should be able to set up that TV. The wiring *might* be a bit trickier depending on your house but ONLY get them to run the wires. Hook up the speakers and screw everything in yourself. Read the manuals and if you have any trouble post it up.

like i said... insurance is the biggest factor in the cost. Some people just can't be bothered to do it themselves too. I'm not arguing that its not easy. Hell I know I can do it myself. I don't know what your argument to my quote is though.

I feel like I'm repeating myself probably because I am. I made the suggestion because he made the comment about the price. If someone is asking about the price they probably are concerned about the cost. I suggested doing it himself because it is very easy to do. Maybe he doesn't want to or can't which is possible but I was just letting him know the option was there.

especially if its on top of a fireplace which is generally not a good thing...is it a gas fireplace of a wooden fireplace? does it have a mantle? what wires do you want to conceal? There are a lot of codes to consider. Power cord to the wall? good luck...i put mine on top of a fireplace too...easy but you need at least another helper...

just DIY the installation of the TV...as for the cords...try to see if you can get a cord concealer instead...you'll be saving around $400 bucks...

Having them run the wires and installing the TV yourself save what $100 bux and then you can throw out any warranty on there part of the install.
