is this a concept wide body or for sure looking like that? Why cant every car company make aggressive designs to their econo-cars too? Does it cost alot more to flare out alittle fender? Is there a conspiracy that a civic or neon should not have curves or bulky fenders?

Jackygor 03-23-2010 12:11 PM

SO...they gave the STI's wide body to the WRX model or am I missing on something here?

Well maybe not, since Mazda decided to ruin their 3's.

indeed, the new 3 is an eyesore to look at

Well... one thing that comes to mind is:

They make money by making basic trims, and sports trim.
You make all the cars sporty, then aftermarket business will lose customers.

And not everyone is into the sporty look. Some people rather not have their cars look like sports cars or something.
And if it cost more to make bodykits, then the cost of cars will go up at stock price. And then the people that don't
want it will have to pay more for it, and then sales will go down.

68style 03-23-2010 04:34 PM

So what exactly is the purpose of the STI model?

It doesn't even really look significantly different anymore... and I saw a recent Road&Track or whatever with hot hatches being tested the WRX 265 tested with better acceleration numbers than the last STI they tested (they made a point of mentioning that in the article)......... Subaru really needs to step up to the plate with the STI because it's totally pointless as it stands right now. I wouldn't pay that much more for some tech and seats and badges... especially if it doesn't translate into actual performance numbers.

what? I cannot make even one bit of logic out of this gibberish.

do you think realistically the cost to the manufacturer to make slightly wider fenders and bumpers are significant?

Like.... the factory flat chest bumpers and fenders aren't exactly free. So let's say it costs $50 more for each car to equip them with wider fenders they can charge you $500 more for the aggressive looks of course they'd do it coz there's extra $450 to be had (especially when the bulging fenders are of old design there really isn't much cost difference with the wide bodies. I believe the WRX won't get those extra bracing found in the STi though).

That's why all makers are going for this "hey look my car looks SPORTY! Now give me more money!" approach. And to compensate for those who don't like it they are still selling the 2.5i piece of shit.

To screw over the aftermarket market is exactly what the manufacturer is out to do....If you are going to throw money away anyway they want you to throw it their way.

optiblue 03-23-2010 04:46 PM

wow... if they had originally just went with the sedan STI with these stylings, I would have gotten it instead! Wide fenders FTW!

Inaii 03-23-2010 04:49 PM

I like! Especially in the blue. Would be nice to see what the back end looks like though.

TOPEC 03-23-2010 05:28 PM

just saw the updated rear end shot, it looks EXACTALLY like the sti's rear. haha i feel bad for ALL those who bought an sti.

lol my bad, when the page loads it shows up to the bottom of the first picture, then i go to the right, and drag all the way to the bottom so i missed the picture.

now that the wrx hatch pretty much looks like the sti, wil the sti get like wings? or a jet engine?

I think the Chuck Norris proof 6-spd tranny, the 4/2pot brembo, rear LSD and aluminum suspension parts truly worth the extra penny. It just comes down to if you want to track a car or not, if yes, STI, if no, WRX.

However, I agree with you, the gap between STI and WRX are getting closer and closer. Someone on NASIOC ran a 13 sec flat 1/4mile with a stock 09 WRX265.

Okay, I don't even know what you're talking about now.

I'm simply addressing to the guy why all cars don't come pre-stock with aftermarket looking bodies.

Thanks for typing gibberish that had nothing to do with my post.

Trim levels exist for a reason, and this is exactly what happens when they make a lower trim car with all the cool packages and bodykits.

Now no one gives crap about the STI anymore. It's probably a bad idea for Subaru, unless they were planning to make the STI even more spectacular now so it separates it from the WRX.

RabidRat 03-24-2010 02:51 AM

my god, Subaru sure loves repeatedly shafting their WRX loyalists hahaha

I would buy an STI purely on the premise that at least the STI will always be the STI. While with the WRX, it comes closer and closer to the STI and as an owner you get fucked more and more as it happens.

ur an idiot if u think the sti is just badges and seats over a wrx.
do u think a M3 is a 335 with badges and wide fenders?
do u think the c63 is a c-class with 4 exhaust pipes?

u seem to be the kind of guy that only cares abt the 0-60 figures, and if a car can do it with a cheaper price, u'll be sold all over it.

08-10 WRX were all hatchbacks correct?

Nope they only force you into a hatch if you want a STi. :swear:

They are rare but I have seen a blue and a white 08+ wrx while in Richmond.

TOPEC 03-24-2010 11:40 AM

^ i think only 08 had wrx in sedan and hatch, 09+ wrx r only hatches.

Incorrect. All 08+ WRX sold in Canada come in 2 body-styles. The 4-dr sedan and the 5-dr hatch.

Although, I have never seen any 09+ WRX sedans on the road in person.

twitchyzero 03-24-2010 12:16 PM

but the current wrx sedans looks like a corolla without the widebody treatment
