airbag did not deploy

totalled my car, icbc wrote the car off coz of severe front end damage.
still thankful no one was harmed.
but still wondering why airbag did not deploy..

One of two reasons:

1) The change in velocity over time was not sufficient to trigger the airbag module.

2) The airbag circuit was defeated, defective, or something similar.

Not my experience. I have seen car rashes that I thought were fatals as I drove to the scene, only to find no injuries, or very minor ones because the bags deployed.
