For me, Twitter is a communal messaging tool. Like a combination of MSN and IRC. It's cool to have that again, I made a lot of good friends on IRC, including !SG back in 1998, and I met my now-wife on there too

tweeting is just mini-blogging. its just blog entries in 150 characters or less, sometimes with links to pictures or websites or music.
sometimes it is used to find out people's opinions on current events or issues (you can do a search query for key words and see what people are saying about it). sometimes people use it for advertising products. sometimes people use it to report news.
i have come to a conclusion that unless you are sum of celeb nobody gives a shit. however i have an account setup so i can get instant update on news and when new product drops.
Twitting addiction is as dumb as being addicted to FB. I don't have a twit account but I do like to read Dana whites twitter once in a while tho Posted via RS Mobile
i can honestly say that i have NEVER been to the twitter website and i have zero desire to do so. i could care less about what 95% of the status updates on facebook are trying to tell me too.
i've never been a fan but am forced to use it at work for work. If you're into a specific topic (let's say cars ahem) i have found that it's actually a really good source of news.
Picturing your friend linking you to the latest car news, pics etc., except it's not your friend and you have thousands of such links to choose from. All the big car companies, bloggers etc. have twitters too, so it's really a much eaiser way to pick and choose from lots of information.
So for information and reading and finding links, it's great. For the more social firendly facebook type stuff - meh
If you use it to find information it can benefit you. Doing a search on certain people, businesses and organizations can get you information you may be looking for. I set up an account about a two weeks ago just to see if I could use it as a networking tool like LinkedIn to communinate with potential employers.
Being on it and looking at other people's profiles, it seems like every Tom, Dick, Harry and Jane has a damn blog linked to their twitter account. They seem to get a lot of traffic coming their way, but who honestly reads this shit. So people that are social media junkies are the ones that like this twitter thing the most in my opinion.

I never understood the twitter hype either... i have an account but i never post. When i do log on once every month or so i read the stuff people post and literally it's all just:
"Omg, stupid traffic."
"Time to take a nap"
"Gonna take a bath now, ttylkkkk"
I mean other than certain celebrities or like CNN tweets, people who use it for their own pleasure basically just posts every second of their life on the internet.
Am i the only person who thinks that it's pointless and dumb? =/

That means the people you follow are morons. Find new friends
Well for me, facebook is people that you "know". Meaning your closest friends, family, people you met once, old/current acquaintances or even strangers. I never status update on facebook.
For twitter, I have a close group of friends that uses twitter and we tweet random stuff that happened that day or stuff they found interesting. Twitter is only effective if your close friends/family uses it on a regular basis.
I think following celebrities or people you don't know is kinda stupid and pointless unless they are SNSD. hah
Twitter is the pinnacle of what Social Media has evolved to in the past few years. I did a small post in my blog about this subject.
regardless, there's a few people on RS that have HUGE twitter followings. may it be for fun or with a purpose at hand, twitter allows successful bloggers to further branch out to their readers by these small tweets.
It also allows the common folk to sign up, follow some celebs, some news and have twitter sources BREAK the news
Twitter is NOT useless, its actually now a big marketing tool
Just don't post useless shit. If you want people to follow what you're saying, make sure what you're saying is meaningful and not some bullshit like Ashton Kutcher's posts.
"Currently sleeping, woke up, brushing teeth, taking a shit, wiping ass".
One actual example of how Twitter was used to a business's advantage is when my coworker expressing her disinterest about a service she was paying for (watching movies online). The business basically searched up what people were saying about their business and was able to figure out a resolution with her.
Or for example you just got yourself an iPhone and you want some information about jailbreaking it. Search it up

Overall, Twitter is not bad but its just not for some.
Great insight on twitter! Almost every website now has a twitter account in which they will use to further interact with the readers! Businesses alike will use to tool to run promos and contest and also provide customer service analysis based on the "trends" on twitter!
