The discovery of these methods was made after London-educated Nigerian Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab came close to blowing up an airliner in the U.S. on Christmas Day.

He had stuffed explosives inside his underpants.

Hours after he had failed, Britain's intelligence services began to pick up "chatter" emanating from Pakistan and Yemen that alerted MI5 to the creation of the lethal implants.

A hand-picked team investigated the threat which was described as "one that can circumvent our defense."

Top surgeons have confirmed the feasibility of the explosive implants.

Explosive experts allegedly told MI5 that a sachet containing as little as five ounces of PETN could blow "a considerable hole" in an airline's skin, causing it to crash.

bunch of nutjobs... if a terrorist really wanted to kill a lot of people there are so many easier things to do that would get waaaaaay more ppl killed

yeah but how do they get to the explosives? electronics placed inside the boobs would get picked up, no? and they can't just hack open their boobs on a plane to get to the chemicals... wouldn't it be a hell of a lot easier for a couple of their guys to swallow small containers of explosives and puke them back out once they clear security?

It's not about killing as many people as possible. It's about instilling fear into a society, a "we can strike anytime, anywhere" mentality.

Hopefully with the new full-body nude scanners they can identify anything hidden in an implant. At this point though, not every airport has them. Not even 5%.

To be honest, I'd imagine a solid plastic explosive puck strapped to the body would be easier than an implant. At this point you don't even get frisked unless the wand detects something. Then carry the Part B in a bottle in carry-on.

That's why I prefer Natural over Fake. ;)

No need, all you need is a piezoelectric igniter that's activated by pushing on a boob. :) Or some other detonator that can be remotely activated via cell phone. If they scanned you and the wand beeped, you can say it's a pacemaker etc etc.

I still say a powdered Part A + liquid Part B would still by far be easiest type of explosive to make. This can even be divvied up between 2 passengers to avoid detection.

Implants would work as well, but to be honest they're not really the most practical.

now i would love to be an airport security! :D

^ that's not really the point of this article though. The chances of a terrorist actually doing this are slim, this is just an article to scare people with the possibilities.
