LOS ANGELES- A 6.9 magnitude earthquake centered in Baja California, Mexico was felt all over Southern California, rocking high rise buildings from San Diego to Los Angeles, but there were no immediate reports of major damage.
The preliminary magnitude-6.9 quake struck at 3:40 p.m. PT about 110 miles east-southeast of Tijuana, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
According to reports, the quake's force caused high-rise buildings in San Diego to sway back and forth around 30 seconds before rocking high-rise buildings in downtown Los Angeles.
is it really gonna be THAT big of a deal for richmond? i mean, richmond has been here for millions of years, i'd suspect that it has undergone quite a few earthquakes... and yet it's still here

this is what richmond may look like if we get hit with a big one

The land may survive (I doubt it: liquifaction + flooding = a whole shit ton of water), but I know for fucking sure that after the "big one" hits all the buildings build on the silty delta we call Richmond will no longer be standing.
Richmond will be fucked, but what about further out... such as Burnaby/Coquitlam.
Burnaby and Coquitlam are both on bed rock they will be fine. The biggest issue will be the fraser river breaking the dikes and causeing massive flooding.
Ever since that Haiti quake, the quakes have been inching closer and closer to us. Turkey, Japan, LA...
Lol whenever I blaze up at night all alone I get paranoid the quake will happen. Posted via RS Mobile
I think you've been blazing up a little too often, or you need to pay attention in geography a bit more... how do you figure the earthquakes have been getting closer to us?
Magnitude 7.8 quake shakes Indonesia's Sumatra today
Quote:
JAKARTA (Reuters) – A major earthquake of 7.8 magnitude struck off the coast of Aceh on the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Wednesday, but there were no immediate reports of a tsunami or casualties.
A Reuters photographer on Simeulue island, south of Aceh, said there was panic and electricity was cut off after the quake. Metro TV reported that people rushed to higher ground in some areas.
The quake was centered 204 km (127 miles) west-northwest of the coastal town of Sibolga and was at a depth of 46 km (28.6 miles), the U.S. Geological Survey said. It had initially reported the quake's magnitude at 7.6.
The Reuters witness said there were at least three aftershocks.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no threat of a destructive widespread tsunami. However, it added: "There is the possibility of a local tsunami that could affect coasts" no more than 100 km (62 miles) from the epicenter of the quake.
In December 2004, a magnitude 9.15 quake off the coast of Sumatra's Aceh province triggered an Indian Ocean tsunami that killed about 226,000 people in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Thailand and nine other countries
