If you have any glitches at all, try clearing your cache first. log out, clear cache, reload browser, and log in again. Sorry for any inconvenience

Minor glitch?

If I go to User CP a list of recently replied to, subscibed threads comes up BUT it's missing a bunch. I have to view ALL subscribed threads to see the missed ones that were replied to recently.

Also noticed that if I didn't reply to a thread (unsubcribed) from say, 2 days ago, it will remain highlighted. Before, those threads would "time out?" and not be highlighted.

I know you're still fine tuning, just wanted to point these out.

got the same problem about how the threads are still highlighted even if i close my browser b/c before after u close the browser the highlighted threads would not be highlighted anymore unless someone new has posted in them

SkinnyPupp 04-11-2010 12:51 PM

Maybe it's because it's late, but I have no clue what you guys are talking about right there.

Putting together a properly structured sentence or two might help ;)

lilaznviper 04-11-2010 04:14 PM

what i mean is this
http://imgur.com/aySyl.jpg

the first circle and second circle

usually when u are done checking and close the broswer and come back the threads are suppose to be like the first circle and when new updates come in its suppose to be like the second circle

fliptuner 04-11-2010 04:55 PM

ie:

You log on at 8am (you were last on at midnight). All the the threads from say 1am-8am that were responded to would be highlighted. The way it is now, all the threads from 2 days before are still highlighted unless you read them.

The first issue I mentioned:

You click User CP and your subscribed threads that were recently (within the last 4 hours) responded to show up. If you go to the bottom right of that box and click View All Subscribed Threads, a bunch more appear IN BETWEEN (not just after) the initial list, which should have been show in the User CP in the first place.

SkinnyPupp 04-11-2010 08:03 PM

This is better though. It specifically remembers exactly what threads you read, and whether they have new replies since you read them. It resets every 48 hours. I can make that longer if you want...

fliptuner 04-11-2010 09:09 PM

IMO it was better before. It reset every 5(ish) hours.
Why? When you get back on, you know right away which threads got no responses since your last visit.

SkinnyPupp 04-12-2010 10:15 PM

It's the same, just more refined.

SkinnyPupp 04-12-2010 10:15 PM

BTW the lag is a known issue, we're looking into it now

It should be faster than ever now. I moved all static objects (images, scripts, etc) over to the 2nd server, running on lighttpd. If you are having problems with images loading, wipe your cache and try again :)

I also edited the title header, it was pointlessly huge... I'd like to change the way we serve local sponsor banners too, it's really inefficient... Stay tuned ;)

some threads r still taking a long ass time to load, ranging from 3secs to 10secs.
and then theres the fail and thank buttons, which takes like 5secs to show up after u click it where as previously its instant. same with quoting a post, it takes like 5-10secs to load the post reply page after i click quote.

SkinnyPupp 04-13-2010 03:32 AM

Yes, I found the problem. When we are at peak load with 1000 users or so, we are saturating the 10 mbps connection between the two servers. We can either optimize a bit (which was done, we'll have to wait and see) or pay to upgrade to a faster connection. We'll see how it looks during peak time tomorrow.

raygunpk 04-13-2010 03:33 AM

when is peak time?

SkinnyPupp 04-13-2010 03:39 AM

This is the bandwidth used in the last 24 hours

That is HK time, so 10am to 11pm is peak time... Pretty much the entire day :lol

TypeRNammer 04-13-2010 05:10 AM

When clicking the thanks button, does the page refresh, bounce to the top and back to the post that was thanked?

I don't remember being it that way before.

Lemme know thanks!

SkinnyPupp 04-13-2010 05:57 AM

Flush your cache, I fixed that already

striderblade 04-13-2010 07:01 AM

now i'm getting a lot of missing thumbnail pic

mrclean604 04-13-2010 07:05 AM

^ haha me too. the icons aren't loading or something

G 04-13-2010 07:20 AM

For me, a lot of things are missing on RS....

First of all, the whole forum site loads slower than I before (IMO). Now, in the quick comments box, its missing a lot of the icons etc for text editing etc etc. I am also missing the Thanks, Fail, Reply etc buttons on posts.

Sorry, it might have been stated before but I really don't want to read the above, but why does RS have so many missing icons all of a sudden?

SkinnyPupp 04-13-2010 07:22 AM

Yes, I forgot how slow Canadian ISP's are at renewing DNS info. I will set the images back now.

For now, try flushing your DNS, see if that helps

SkinnyPupp 04-13-2010 07:25 AM

OK images should load now. Flush your browser cache if it doesn't.

Sorry about all this, I am tweaking every last thing to make sure the site runs as fast as possible. Even though it is "good enough" to work, I want it to be PERFECT.

TOS'd 04-13-2010 07:34 AM

^ while your at it could you revert back to the old system (reffering to new posts thing)? a couple members have noticed it but the majority i guess do not care, and you said it is less of a load for the server, so win win?

SkinnyPupp 04-13-2010 07:42 AM

Sure.

G 04-13-2010 08:09 AM

^Naice. Thanks for the refreshed update man. Everything is working A. OK.

Greenstoner 04-13-2010 11:25 AM
