| Window 7 on HP Vista DV2000 Laptop
I am looking to install window 7 on a HP DV2000 laptop that original came with Vista.
I remember hearing somewhere before that window 7 will automatically get all the drivers for you so you don't have to go find and install each one manually. Is that true?
Also...is there anything I need to be aware of when installing W7 on the HP laptop? Some people say because of the way HP formatted the HD and Bios, it is more difficult to install a new OS.
I've formatted and installed new OS on my older laptop and desktop in many occasion w/o any problems. (pretty much just a straight boot from CD and follow instruction)

(pretty much just a straight boot from CD and follow instruction) | Well...to a certain extent it's true. Only catch being that if Windows 7 doesn't have a NIC or wireless driver for your machine, then it obviously can't go out and get your other drivers since it needs an Internet connection to do this.
I did a quick search on HP's site and I don't see any Windows 7 drivers by HP for your machine. You could get away with using Vista or XP drivers...but it's going to be trial and error.
I'm guessing HP has the recovery partitions on their laptop that they use to restore from. You can delete the partitions if you don't intend to ever recover the laptop with the old OS, or if you just want to keep it there for later use, then just leave it and install on another partition and boot to that.
If you're not familiar with reinstalling an OS from the ground up, I'd probably advise against doing so on this particular computer since there's no real driver support for all the hardware on there. It may require more work than you're comfortable with (like having to find out what specific hardware is on your machine and going to the manufacturer to get the drivers or piecing together drivers from elsewhere)

I have DV2310CA
generally I just install windows 7 then run Windows update
everything works perfectly
in case I forget something , here is the guide that I follow
the only problem I got was getting the display driver. but after a windows update display driver was fixed http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Operati...ls/td-p/186936 |

that i had to download off hp's site | that is because those buttons need a specific software to run their specific functions, unlike drivers, which windows can automatically find.

I've got a dv6424ca, the only issues I've had since switching to 7 from Vista are:
- the mute button above the keyboard doesn't go orange like it should when I hit it. but it does still mute.
- Windows was telling me to install a graphics driver, but the proper one was already installed. So be sure you update with the one from HP for Vista, as they run modified ones (so you can't, for example, just use a standard NVidia driver)

I upgraded my girlfriend's HP Vista laptop (Don't know the exact model) to Windows 7 Home Premium and I had no problem in doing so. In terms of compatibility, I had no problem with the drivers after.
As for the mute button turning orange, hers still turns orange and works. Putting Windows 7 to replace Windows Vista increased the speed of her laptop quite a bit.
IMO, you should do it and you'll be happy with the results =)
