I'm sure we can all think of many uses for a tablet device.

But does it have to be an ipad?

Nope. Unless you need iTunes.

Most of these guys use a tabletPC of sorts, and does very little typing...

The iPad would be a horrible replacement for a Toughbook.. they would have to buy a new iPad every week..

Casual users with Apple products (like myself, I have a Nano and a Shuffle) will have no interest in it.

Casual users who use Apple computers and have an iPhone probably won't either.

It's the mentalcases who have convinced themselves that it is not a useless gimmick that are buying these things. And as we all know, there is no shortage of mentalcases in this world ;)

And of course, the people who want a really good ebook reader...

stats and reports on these no interest?

The Ipad would've been a perfect additional tool for designers if it had decent notebook specs with a stylus feature. I can just see myself sketching doodles or concept with the use of a stylus. But the fact that it's missing a big chunk of essential features especially multi-tasking makes it a useless crap.

However, here's a pretty cool demo of the Sketchbook App from Autodesk:

LOL.. I can't comment on the iPAD, but my iPOD classic 160 gb has been very durable.. It's been dropped on its head more times than I can count the number of times I've farted in class in elementary school..

What's the cheapest tablet on the marketplace right now anyways? A basic HP one costs >$1000CDN AFAIK.

Sure that's great. It will be out in the fall. These Apple morons should'v have figured to include this feature in the very beginning of the initial release rather than later in the year.

it's not because they're morons. it's because they deliberately leave out features so that they can add it to next generation products to keep selling products.

3G -> 3GS. almost the same product, add video recording/upgrade the features a bit...another year of good sales.

then after sales die down, offer software upgrade to appease the older generation owners so that they keep buying their products.

underscore 04-09-2010 11:56 AM

^ but that's about half of apples usual bullshit scheme. v1.0 is missing most features that any modern product should have, but it sells like mad because people are dumber than sticks these days. v2.0 will have some of the features that the first bloody version should have had, this will also sell like mad because all those morons out there "need" to upgrade (v1.0 is now in a box in the corner). then v3.0 will come out, finally with all the features the first piece of shit should have had (v1.0 and 2.0 are now either broken due to Apples designed 1-2 year lifespan, or in a box somewhere).

StylinRed 04-09-2010 12:49 PM

again HP Slate FTMFW

can't understand how Apple has all these fools sucking on their balls

q0192837465 04-09-2010 12:54 PM

^If people will buy regardless, what's the point of giving them more features when u can sell them? Apple is there to make the shareholders happy, not the fanboys

StylinRed 04-09-2010 12:55 PM

^^^ oh i get Apple, they're doing a great job... but how the ppl fall for it is so wtf?

unit 04-09-2010 12:59 PM

ipad is a stupid product
but apple knew it would sell.
and it did.

because they don't call them balls, they call them iSpheres and have people convinced that they are somehow more powerful and able to make better babies even though there's the same sperm inside.

slightly incorrect as well... note that 3G is not getting some of the features...

hardware limitations...

Have you checked out iTunes? Autodesk charges $7.99 for this app. $7.99

And this is why the HP Slate and others will fail - doesn't matter how good the hardware is, if there's no software for it (or you have to pay desktop prices to buy software for your tablet running a desktop OS) then they will fail. The App Store is what will make the iPad successful.

Anyone watched the HP Slate video? Remember the old iPhone TV commercials where users are doing various tasks and the response time is "instant"? Then at the bottom of the screen is a disclaimer showing sequences were "shortened"? The previous iPhones were not fast or snappy, hence the clever editing to make them look so in the commercials.

Well HP has done the same thing in their video of the Slate. You never actually see someone turn it on and the long wait for it to boot. You never see an application started and how long it takes before you can use it. And for good reason. Anyone who has ever tried to run Windows 7 on an older machine knows the words "snappy" and "responsive" are not ones you'd use to describe the experience. The Slate may have the horsepower under the hood, but I bet when the two are put side-by-side it's going to feel like a slug comapred to the iPad. Unless, of course, you run some high-end program the iPad would choke on (which I know many iPad hating review sites will do to try and skew the results). OMFG the iPad can't play Crysis or encode H264 video in real-time.

Netbooks? Here's a great idea. Let's make something that will do everything a regular laptop will do. Except it'll do it much, much slower on a crappy little screen and dinky keyboard. Maybe I should have fired up my "real" laptop instead if I wanted to get some work done.

BTW, SkinnyPupp, when can we expect your review of the iPad? Don't hardware review sites get iPads to try out? Let's see you do a comparison of the iPad to a Netbook to the HP Slate when it comes out.

SkinnyPupp 04-10-2010 08:26 AM

Apple doesn't send anything out to anyone, they have to buy them. I'd like to review one though, from the perspective of someone who doesn't have a pro-Apple bias (which 100% of the reviews I've seen have).

no_clue 04-10-2010 05:40 PM

I was just down in seattle/portland and the ipad was soldout.
I wanted one.... :(

Apple already said they sold 300,000 in day one.

And since then: http://labs.chitika.com/ipad/

did you read the review on anandtech?

i only read the conclusion, lol, but it said something about it being a luxury and not can't replace a laptop.

SkinnyPupp 04-10-2010 07:47 PM

Haven't read that one, no. All the ones I read were on gadget blogs, and talked about how amazing it was, and how it would change their life forever. Fucking morons.

no_clue 04-10-2010 08:06 PM

yeah was it the new york times or CNET that raved about how it'll change their lives? It's just a gadget.
Although I still want one as a toy......
plus im an apple fanboy

So who's the moron? The fanboys raving about the iPad on their obviously biased review sites, or the person who selectively reads these same reviews so they can claim ALL reviewers are biased?

I've read a ton of iPad reviews, and even the non-Apple crowd like it.

Must be so dissapointing for you to find that real people actually like the iPad when you clearly hate everything Apple.

BTW, since you keep harping about how you "don't give a fuck", how come you continuously show up in Apple iPad threads to complain about how useless it is, how stupid the people who like it are and to post those numerous ridiculous cartoons and comparison charts?

Why bother to click on a thread about something you couold care less about?
