The commercial did what it intended to do, and that is create buzz. Regardless of positive or negative thoughts on it, people are talking about it. With Tiger having a legitimate shot at winning the Masters, with an impressive first two rounds, it was genius in my opinion.

Tiger and his wife are together again. Everything will be forgotten and forgiven when he gets another jacket

If i wasn't told that was his fathers voice, i wouldn't have known.

But you do know, and everyone else will know because someone else knows. Whoever watched Kimmel knows, etc.

Nike is just reminding people of their brand. Marketing isn't always about selling you something. The next time you want to purchase sporting goods, the most recent manufacture in your memory will be Nike. Of course it might not be the case for everyone, but you get the point.

if you've seen Nike ads before their slogan is "just do it." I think the commercial was implying "Just Do It" when queued with the question "did you learn anything?"

vafanculo 04-09-2010 01:22 PM

"did you learn anything"?

"ya...not to trust a ho"

The voice over from Tiger's dad is from a documentary in which he is talking to Tigers Woods mom.

What Tiger’s father was really talking about in Nike ad

Staff Reporter

The voiceover provided by the late Earl Woods in a new Nike ad was not originally spoken in reference to his golfer son, Tiger, but rather was an oblique potshot at Tiger’s mother, Kultida.

The source of the audio, which many have criticized as crass, is a 2004 DVD about the younger Woods’s life, according to Sports by Brooks.

The ad features a black-and-white image of the Tiger Woods, while his father, who died four years ago, speaks in the background: “Tiger, I am more prone to be inquisitive, to promote discussion. I want to find out what your thinking was. I want to find out what your feelings are. Did you learn anything?”

In its original context, Earl Woods was not speaking about his son. The first word in the ad – “Tiger” – was apparently tacked on by Nike.

Instead, Earl Woods appears to have taken taking a subtle jab at his ex-wife, Tiger’s mother, Kultida.

“Authoritarian. Yeah, Tida is very authoritative. She is very definitive. ‘Yes’ and ‘no.’ I am more prone to be inquisitive, to promote discussion. I want to find out what you’re thinking was, I want to find out what your feelings are and did you learn anything? So, we were two different types, but we co-existed pretty well.”

The Ad worked like a charm, everyone is talking about it.

Vancouver240sx 04-10-2010 01:26 AM

AzNightmare 04-10-2010 04:48 AM

I barely ever seen any Puma ads on TV (if ever) and I always look at their stuff before Nike.
Advertisement can only work so much for me... lol

I like my Puma's.

Meowjin 04-11-2010 03:54 AM

the colbert ones are the best.

trip 04-11-2010 04:32 AM

theyre trying to salvage what they can from the situation by addressing it as well

a regular tigerwoods nike ad wouldnt have generated as much talk

therefore the ad did its job by creating buzz and indirectly referencing the situation

Bad reading comprehension FTL...

According to The National Enquirer, Raychel Coudriet was 14 when she first met the golfer as she lived close to his house and later had a one night stand with him.
Meaning it was probably years later, after she was legal, that the one night stand happened. Otherwise Tiger would be in the slammer right now.
