Anyone understand what one is?
I recently became aware of one here. A rather obvious one and I'd like to question why this has happened and why it continues?
Maybe just an oversite I don't know.

Sponsors as head mods

Its kinda like Canadian tire managers working as walmart greeters.

Won't a better analogy would be a Telus subscriber is a Telus executive at the same time?

Just curious who is it?

Orgasm Donor? He's been a long time respected member and moderator of Revscene before he ever became a paying vendor. Besides, he's the Head Moderator of the Vancouver Auto/Off Topic chat section. Seeing as there's minimal vendor advertising in that section, I don't see any conflict of interest there...

I can see how this could be a conflict of interest, but OD is such a stand up guy anyway he would be an awesome head mod.

This isn't meant to be a who is it kind of thread (I'm sure most of you know or can quickly figure it out).
This is just a beef I have with this site. A site many businesses including my own have to pay good money to be a supporter of.
The way I see it a forum moderator should be a non biased member here for the benefit of the forum and only the forum. A sponsor is here to take advantage of the large population of members to use as a marketing tool to benefit their business. As a business person they are biased and need to be.
So a conflict of interests is achieved when one member has both of these duties or obligations.

This has been the case at Revscene for a few years. Sure maybe there isn't much advertising in one section or enough influence to be had in one area or another, but one things sure, by allowing a sponsor to be a moderator it allows this person or company to have a certain amount of ownership over the forum.

I see it as being wrong, and I'm not even a sponsor, heck I couldn't even become one when I asked. Either way, I saw Phil's comment as a friendly ribbing, and unfortunately this type of communicating isn't always the best way to judge one's feeling.

The way I saw it is that a moderator and sponsor of this site took the comments in the wrong way and decided to exercise his power and lock the thread even without any slanderous comments or threats being made.

you also spammed RS a few times. i know you do plenty of backdoor installs via pm for which i havent said anything about =). but i feel you have contributed enough to balance the action of banning for spamming.

hey phil,

clarence messaged me over a thread that OD moved, but i asked clarence to point out the thread to me so i can look into it. i havent gotten any link.

i have been notified about the other thread that has been closed in the audio forum. from what i see, as a 3rd person non biase opinion, you basically called out OD's install as being less than professional. now, im not an audio installer, but im sure you guys all take pride in ur installs, and all the crazy ways to have them mounted and molded. i would easily assume you would take pride in ur art, and thus, talking down on someone elses craft and creation would probably peeve them off.

As for being bias and conflict of interest, i still oversee every action any mod makes. there is log of all moderator activity, from editting a thread, to moving a thread, to deleting a thread. I will take the time to look into it, but only be able to do so if given the proper evidence. without a link to a thread, its just finger pointing. you guys have my number, and if i cant be reached, there is voicemail. i even tried to visit on saturday, but the shop was closed. i ended up going up a block to say hi to rolo.

as i said with you guys when i met with you and akira before signing up. doing a sale thread once in a while isnt gonna cut it. you want sales? you gotta make posts, installs, pics of latest work. a single thread posting ur sale items that gets bumped once in a while isnt gonan cut it, you need to be more interactive. answering audio questions, pm'ing members that ask for help, all that contributes to sales. if your threads are posts are being deleted, regular members may not be able to see it, but i can. it still leaves a trace.

so with that said, provide me with the links of questionable act, and ill look into it, you have my cell number, you have my email. if i cant look at it right away, ill look at it when i get home. i dont go out much these days due to the accident, so i have plenty of time to look at these problems in front of the computer.

RS is not a newspaper or some flyer you put an ad in and hope to get a 3% return after 6 months of advertising. the advertisers that do it right, get maximum benefit return in sales revenue by being interactive, by being post friendly, by being active in contributing by posting their projects. That is what makes RS work for the advertiser.

Thank you for recognizing that I have contributed, but this thread wasn't started because of me or my actions.
Yes I used to do installs on the side, I will admit to it, then again my feedback does... and if you look at others feedback you will see the immense difference in installs, done on the side.

I have always wanted to help Revscene members, that has always been the reason why I'm here, it hasn't changed for me.. I have kids and a family and a regular day job and really not much time for anything else.

Then again this thread is about something completely different.

I was only giving my opinion, I wasn't trying to fuel the fire.

For the record no ones install skills were called out as less then professional I complemented them. "Nice clean install" is what I said I don't bash other work never have never will.
Why anyone would get so pissy and defensive to my obvious ribbing is beyond me, for Christ sakes a 6.5 is what is supposed to be there, there is no shame in having one there.

This is a conflict of interest thread and this is what I'm calling out not someones skills so please stay on topic I'd hate to see this deleted edited or locked by someone getting offended and feeling disrespected.

i know phil, BUT, thats how i saw it, im giving u my opinion on what i saw and read in the thread. now it sounds like the comment was taken out of context and as a personal jab at someones install. again thats how i saw it.

RS is working out for you, thats great, but RS can work a hell lot better for you. ill come by and reiterate some stuff. you may be surprised how much more business you will get. its a working formula, and you may regret it. we've had sponsors be booked up with wait times of over 2 weeks for some jobs.

ive kept an eye on the audio forum for quite some time. it may be a possibly conflict of interest, but from every post ive seen from orgasm donor, he has suggested "check out the audio sponsors". we all know that orgasm donor works at soundsgood, but aside from that point, from what ive seen, he's been doing his part trying to be non bias.

Clarence would have still been a mod... if he actually did some moderating when he was a mod and not just post up porn links

It got deleted. No explanation until I had to look into it. All I got was an excuse on why it was ok for them to post there, but I wasn't. Frankly, I don't care enough to argue back and forth over it. I don't have the time or patience to deal with that bs. Phil, if you feel that there may be some issues arising out of interest conflicts in the audio forum (or any of the tech forums), shoot me a PM and I'll look into it. I still run those forums and the member/mod in question is under me in that section. If I'm unable to come to a satisfactory fix between you guys, I'll more than gladly pass it along to SG.

dead links are still traceable. in all aspects of any job, no one can do their job if not given at least some tools to work with, this goes for me as well. i get countless pm's "hey, ive been a member since so n so, why was my thread gone?"

my general reply, "ive been here from the start, where can i get organic ice cream in a bowl?" Yeah, makes no sense? same shit, just cuz i hold this title, doesnt mean i sit my ass in front of the computer examining every single thread, post, and forum thats on here every single minute. give me a break too man!

I'm not concerened just about the COI in just the audio forum its the potential for COI within the whole forum.
You see when one person has the power to mold things as they see fit within the whole forum and thats there job then fine.
When someone with an alterior motive IE business has the power to do so then that creates an uncomfortable and unfair advantage over the other business people of this forum.
It has been made clear in the past and recently to me by more then one person, I've witnessed questionable actions as well, this is a problem and its a problem that some may consider minor and not worth arguing about but I consider it major and will state my position on the matter.
This forum after all is a business not just friends making a cool forum to chat on and I feel thats how it should be operated.
