Ferrari 599XX Laps the Nurburgring in Under 7 Minutes

Ferrari's 599XX is typically used only in a bespoke race series, but the Italian automaker schlepped its spec racer/ test machine out to the Nürburgring to see what it was capable of. According to the company, the car can lap the 'Ring in under seven minutes, making it the fastest "production-derived sports car."

Ferrari's test driver, Raffaele de Simone, hustled the 599XX around the grueling 12.94-mile course 6:58:16. Although that may be impressive, it's important to note the 599XX isn't a street-legal vehicle. The car, based on the 599 GTB, is purpose-built for a unique race series, and features improved aerodynamics, racing slick tires, carbon ceramic brakes, and a gutted interior. Perhaps most important is the modified 6.0-liter V-12 underhood, which pumps out 700 horsepower, up from the GTB's 610.

We're more interested to see what Ferrari's latest 599 variant -- the 599 GTO -- can do around the 'Ring. The road-going car pulls a number of its upgrades from the 599XX, and extracts 660 horsepower from the V-12, allowing it to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.35 seconds. The 599 GTO recently lapped Fiorano faster than the legendary Enzo, so we know it's capable of great -- perhaps even amazing -- feats.

so that's not a production model...oh well still kinda cool

Mr.Jay 04-23-2010 11:39 AM

Well the 599 is production but this doesn count as you can't buy one, Ferrari has to offer it to you and you can't drive it around like its actually your car.

So with that said the title still belongs to the Viper Arc edition

How fast was that R-34 GTR a while back? Wasn't that just over 7 minutes?

Hell no

The new GTR does it in 7:26 according to Nissan while independent testing has shown number closer to 7:37.

The R33 GTR did it in 8:01+ so I would assume the R34 to be somewhere within 7:40ish

edit: just re-read your comment and my bad looks like you are taking about a tuned r34 and not stock car

Usually if they want to go for the record the rent the track out for a couple hours and go balls to the wall. They are allowed to make slight modifactions to the stock car (air pressure, gear ratio etc) but no changing parts out for the time to count.

Also most runs are done not from a stand still but a rolling start.

Or so I have heard, not speakin from exp here :haha:
