Depending on how wide of a tire, and any body mods, YES.

I am running a 255/40/17 tire on a 17X8.5 wheel with 48mm offset and it will rub with enough rear suspension compression.
A 245 tire should be fine.

For the fronts, a 225/45/17 tire on a 17X7.5 wheel with 45mm offset and it does rub with enough front suspension compression.

Most guys on S2ki are running 63mm offset for wheels that are 8.5 in and wider.

If you want 8.5's in the front without body mods, then you will have to get something with a 63 or higher offset.

Anything lower than that and the tire will hit the fender liner/clips or worse, the fender itself.

Or else, roll the fenders or get wide body fenders to get the clearance you need with the lower offset wheels.

I have Weds on mine. Btw, if u want keep stagger, your going to need 9.5s, as stock is 1" wider in the rear, in order to keep the car's handling characteristics of course. But if you want more understeer than go for it.
And as for why not Rotas? cause they are cheap pos, that crack and are heavy as fuck.

looking for a set of used quailty tims now lol
after seeing ppl against rotas... its kinda not the way to go in the long run
not really planning to roll my fenders, and lowering the car comes after the rims
another reason for me to look for at nicer rims

thanks for the replies guys!

if you do not want to roll your fenders, look for offset very high like sumaznguy has posted

The higher offset the better

just look for a proper fitment that will still remain as flush as possible without touching fender

You can get away with a 45/48 offset wheel on the rear but then you have to run a narrower tire. A 245 tire on an 8.5 wheel with 48mm offset should be narrow enough to clear the rear fenders.
Most of the time, my 255's don't rub. When they do, it is because I am going too fast over a bump and the suspension has to compress quite a bit.

As for the front, same thing. Go with a 215 or a 215 tire, and that should miss the fender liner and clips. My 225 tires do rub under heavy compression.

As for Rotas, well they are pretty ghetto, but then again I am running Spoon knockoff Rota Slipstreams. Meh, I have a set of JDM BBS's for the track.
