give me $50 and i'll take you out to deepcove on my boat and we can go crabbing.

it usually takes about 20mins to get about 4-5 crabs. with old fish as bait.

btw. op do you have crab traps? they get pretty expensive.. the last time we bought our crab traps they were $200 each.

yeah my buddies have traps so thats not a problem. finding a good spot is. going on a boat would be awesome but just looking for the easy way out on a pier or something! i know its not as effective but if i could find a half decent spot i could go there over and over again.

$200 each for a freaking trap? holly

i thought the regular ones are around $30-40 bux

i heard a lot of the off shore sites, the shell fish are not edible, due to industrial pollution.

Most crabs come out at night, and using raw chicken meat was the best bait -- just tie some chicken thighs onto a crab trap's wire mesh, and after 20 minutes or so there should be a bunch of crabs.

+1

I haven't gone crabbing in quite awhile but I've been to the pier watching other people hauling some decent sized crab.

FN-2199 04-30-2010 11:05 AM

+1 for deep cove and porteau cove ;)

johny 04-30-2010 11:20 AM

last summer I caught craps with a net at low tide. walked out waist deep and scooped them off the bottom. this wasn't in the lower mainland though :)

Lol I'm a commercial crab fishermen and the truth to crab fishing is time, let your traps soak over night and u should have a decent amount of crabs. You guys got ripped off even I don't pay 200 bucks for a full sized commercial crab trap about 105-120 depending on the weight of the trap.

If u guys have a buddy with a small boat or dinghy just take out a few traps soak em for a couple days and head back out to haul em they should be full of crabs!

Try to stay out of navigational channels or places with very strong tide cause the water alone can take your traps into deeper waters therefor losing the trap. Try to make sure your trap isn't too light or too heavy to pull up by hand.

I used to live up Indian arm we would toss the trap right off the dock. Old fish heads and guts punctured cans of cat food and chicken were great bait. Good fishing right off the dock too.

unit 04-30-2010 12:16 PM

whats the crab count limit per person?

i know most spots are over-crabbed... was hoping someone could speak from experience on a place that they've gone recently and have had good success with legal sized male crabs.

discuss

PS where the hell do you catch crabs on King George Highway? I rarely ever went to Surrey, but isn't that like the main road where Pho Tam is??
