| Catalytic Converter Thefts in Lower Mainland
A tenant of mine in the building told me that he had the cat converter stolen from his Pathfinder parked on the side street next to the building about 2 weeks ago.
Yeah, crackheads are doing that now.
It was right about the same time that the passenger window was smashed on our truck, so I'm assuming that it was the same people.
The building is at 10th street and 4th ave.
I remember seeing a device adtertised on Gearz or Truck U that is made of aircraft cable that blocks a theif from stealing a converter. I chalked it up to a company using fear to sell something to stop a crime that doesn't really happen.
Apparently I was wrong.
Keep an eye out guys. His truck was parked on the street next to 2 houses and another apartment building, right under a traffic light.

catalytic converters are pretty expensive, and they're a lot easier to steal then things like rims, so it's not surprising at all. i remember a few years back when i was taking auto in high school, our teacher was talking about how they're one of the most commonly stolen things off cars
that anti theft thing sounds like a good investment

Hard to catch these guys also because when you see someone under a car, you normal would assume they are just trying to fix something.

Catalytic converters contain expensive precious metals like platinum - which is worth up to $1,200 an ounce; palladium, which can fetch $320 an ounce and rhodium, the biggest prize of all. It goes for up to $6,000 an ounce on the market.

yea, those crack head tends to steal from cars that are more easily accessable like trucks, suv, vans. Lowered cars r safer because it requires too much effort. I guess I don't regret lowering my car.

Too bad there's nothing on the market that is like superglue. As soon as someone puts their hands on the pipe or cat, it gets welded on real good. It would be hilarious to see a punk stuck to the bottom of your vehicle. If it were me, I'd drive around the neighbourhood pretending not to hear the screaming as I drag the fokker over speed bumps.
Or better yet, a lowrider with a motion sensor. Instant 5 inch drop. Actually, this might solve the fucking cat of the feline variety problem I have. Neighbourhood cat likes to sit under my truck and take a dump. It may not squish the bastard, but it would sure scare the living daylights out of it.

I know a few people this happened too its been going on since metal prices started skyrocketing about 5 years ago.
The shop behind us even had a few of there customers fuel tanks punctured and emptied when fuel costs went through the roof.
