Mechanic Trying to Fuck me over.

I took my car to a mechanic down in surrey who agreed to do my timing belt and waterpump for 150bucks, If i supplied the parts
I get down there, he says wow its a twim cam, so 180. I thought w.e its still cheaper then other mechanics.
I wait a while, He pulls apart my car and says i need a new value cover gasket and serpatine belt, so thats another 60bucks of parts. I went out to lordco, grabbed the parts go back , wait a few hours i come down stairs, and i see him messing with my lower pulley, he says, its stuck. And some reason the person who did my timing belt before, WELDED my lower pulley onto place, Now he said its another 60bucks for the pulley, so now hes asking 240. I call him today and he said he can't find the pulley. So i have to wait till tomorrow because he needs to go to chilliwack to pick it up.

Am i being fucked over? I told him just put my car back together and ill leave. He said he can't without taking out the pulley. What am i suppose to do?

Personally, I don't think he's really out to screw you over, although for $150 that's kinda iffy, if you know what I mean.

Stuff like a valve cover gasket and replacing belts (you should anyway) is necessary so why he didn't tell you this in the beginning is a bit of a douchebag move on his part. As for the lower pulley - well, it was a hack job to begin with so now it's biting you in the ass. For me, I always fix it right the first time than deal with a nightmare later on. Live and learn, right?

Overall, for $240, it's hard to complain and I understand where you're coming from (time wasted/frustration etc.) However, douchebag move on your mechanic's part for not being a little straight up with the associated costs. Next time, try reputable Revscene sponsors such as Rise Auto Salon or Brian Jessel Autohaus et al. Good luck!

There is such a thing as too cheap but some people never seem to learn that.
A good fair mechanic would have warned you of the pit falls before getting started to prevent such future concerns.
A mechanic should have mentioned such issues as water pump valve cover seals tentioners serpentine etc. Before committing to the job. It doesn't mean those things need to be replaced but it warns you of the possibility so your not pissed later.

better than when i got my TBelt done.

quoted 250 incl. parts by Nick at Kartec Auto on Main & 18th. The boy used too much torque to tighten teh crank shaft pulley and 1 week later. the pulley broke, and the guy had to drill out the bolt. had to replace the pulley cuz he chipped it. guess who paid for the extra labour + pulley?
guess the final cost of job? 500 - yup, could've gotten it done at honda for the same price but with better service and warranty.

Holy shit this guy is taking you for a ride.

+1 to Truenosan's comment. Pay for what has been done before more damage (to the wallet) hits harder.

today I called him, he's like u come I pick u up you pay for parts I don't wanna pay for your parts. I tweaked and said your a fucking mechanic , you fix it , you don't break my parts and tell me to pay for it. He said no your car is shit and nothing works. I said no its not shit. I drove it to your house just fine. You pay for parts and u fix my car till it runs and I can drive home. He said okay but tomorrow u pay me for everything or no car.
I said sure w.e

I talked to my uncle he flipped out saying this guy is trying to take advantage of my good nature cause I'm young. So I call the mechanic back and said. Stop working on my car I'm picking it up tomorrow. He said fine but you pay for my parts, and special pulley I had to drive to mission to get. I told him tomorrow I'm comming with my uncle to see my car. Ill pay yoy for what work I told you to do and u did without fucking up. He got mad and hung up

Damn that sucks man, but hey, live and learn. If it's too good to be true, it probably is. Next time you know, before committing to any work, make sure a shop or mechanic is straight up about potential work/parts necessary. Sure, there are times where they encounter something wrong without expectation but this situation went out of control like a wild fire. This is a good forum to ask questions so I would suggest asking on here first to get a good idea of what to expect, then commit to work. Good luck!

how do we know that your car isn't some complete piece of shit. that ends up being a black hole for time and labour.

a lot of times you don't know the extent of the repairs necessary until you have everything apart.

If my car was soo shitty why did it run fine till he got it? And even if it was shit. Why couldn't he show me replacement parts.

He called me last night after disappearing alll saturday he told me 120 for parts he bought and 220 for labour. I told him fine okay but I wanna see reciepts for the parts and he freaked out and hung up. So I call back. He was asking me to pklease not yell at him. So I was like okay you have to give receipts if you want money for parts. He said okay ill print u receipts but now u pay taxes. I said okay sure. Now I'm picking up my car on monday I'm paying 220 for labour. Only for the parts he has receipts for and I'm taking 20 bucks off for insurance cause a 4 hour job became a week.
