William Shatner worth $600M from Priceline

Wow, talk about hitting a jackpot...

To some young folks, former Captain Kirk William Shatner is perhaps best known as the buffoonish pitchman for Priceline.com, an Internet travel website. Well, he's laughing all the way to the bank: The Toronto Sun reports that the former Star Trek star has made a whopping $600 million from the gig.

Why so much?

Shatner shrewdly asked to be compensated with company stock when he signed on with the startup in 1997, and the stock is now worth a cool $600 million, the newspaper reported:

Quote:
Priceline's shares, which at one point plummeted to $1.80 during the dot-com crisis in 2000, are now trading close to $300 apiece. And although the company won't disclose how many shares (or salary) Shatner receives, it's presumed to be plenty. After all, it's Shatner's personality driven ads for the website that has made it so popular.
Guess if he wants to be governor general of Canada, he can just pay for the job.

I'm sure he had been paid in (although might be minimal at first) cash on top of the shares. This is a very common tactic to hire talent in a startup firm. If you make it successful with your talent you'd be super rich, making you one of the stake holder driving performance up.
