Tofino Recommendations
 

Hi,

I'm planning a trip to Tofino sometime in June. I've only been there once and went surfing however I'd love to hear more fun to do activities they offer.

How's the following:
-Kayaking
-Whale watching
-Hiking
-Scuba Diving
-Bear watching
-Biking
-Surfing

Anyone have any recommendations for the following, rental shop, lessons etc that would be great :D

Also accommodation experience and suggestions for a couple would be good too.

for whale watching, hiking and bear watching the best place to go to is Jamies whaleing station (or whale watching)

there's a great surf shop in Tofino but I really forget the name.

For accommodations it all depends on how much you want to spend. I booked a room at Crystal Cove for Nov 3 months ago but they are really good but book up fast.

I'm looking to spend around 100ish a night, but would consider more if a particular place has awesome reviews :)

honestly you wont get much for 100ish your best bet is to spend around 150-200 a night for a good place.

Anyone have any experience with flying to tofino?

anyone here drove up to tofino recently? Any update on the road conditions?

Should I be expecting to hit gravel etc as mentioned in the thread below?

i drove last week .. it was fine..
that thread is over a year old..
the roads are never smooth.. very twisty and narrow..

i go there around once every 2 months for work..

there is also.. natural hotsprings there.. and if you have time, visit Ucluelet

take the ferry to nainamo, save you the 2-3hrs from swartz bay unless you have other things to do in victoria.

I've been looking to do a trip to Tofino with the wife for our 1yr anni....

Looking at different hotels, and came across Wickaninnish Inn....this is probably the nicest hotel in all of Tofino...and looking at the website...I'm not surprised...

^ its hella expensive too...last time i went i found a private lodge/house type of thing, had 2 floors, with bbq in the backyard, right on the water.

it was like 300 for 2 nights, really nice and romantic

where is this natural hotspring?

^u need to take a short boat ride to get there i heard

My girl and I stayed here for our 1 year I highly recommend it! We were lucky to have great weather and the pictures do show how nice it is. Place is a little small but if it is just the 2 of you it should be no problems.

it'll be gay if you go there an dont' do surfing.

word of advice, make sure you do surfing and then go abck to the hotel.

last thing you want to do is check out from ur hotel, surf and then drive home without a nice shower.

I wouldn't do scuba, i teach scuba myself and I would learn it in Vancovuer locally and MAYBE dive there, i wouldn't do my lesson learning and waste a few days learning how to dive there.

Thanks everyone, I think we will do surfing and whale watching and stay for 2 nights.

So far for hotels I've narrowed it down to 4 choices.

Pacific Sands - Ocean View Studio
Cox Bay Beach - 1 Bedroom beach house
Middle Beach Lodge -
Long Beach Lodge - Partial Ocean View Room

Long Beach Lodge is about $100 more $$ since overall cost is higher... and Middle Beach Lodge is the cheapest.

Best place to rent surf gear, bar none, is from Long Beach Surf Shop. Take my word for it, I've been up there every summer for the past 3 or 4 years and finally settled on this place... better customer service, padded car straps, better rates, newer equipment, and generally less of a douchebag attitude than the 2 other major places.

Whatever you do, steer clear of "Live to Surf" even if the location is more convenient. Multiple negative experiences here, it's more expensive, the unpadded car straps can hurt the paint of your vehicle, and there is a general lack of professionalism.

ive been to long beach lodge.

really nice.
i only went their coz i had a discount.

the rear is a big beach as with most of the accommodations..

raining all week.. is it a good idea to take a trip there?

*cross fingers* it doesn't rain in the following weeks...

or more like ... is it any fun if it rains? haha

i heard people go there during winter for surfing and storm watching... sounds exciting but cold...

but if you have the wetsuit on then it prob won't make much of a difference since the water is always cold

It's always raining in Tofino. Literally. You *might* get a sunny trip if you visit in June/July, but you're still likely to experience morning fog/mist and only see the sun in the late afternoon. It'll be cold, too - expect about 5 degrees cooler than Vancouver as the daytime high.

The weather doesn't dampen the fun, though. Surfing in the rain is a blast. When you're wearing a 5mm wetsuit it really doesn't matter what the weather is doing. At least you'll be able to rinse the salt off more easily....

Don't let the weather stop you or you'll never go. Tofino is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been, rain or shine. Everytime I take someone for their first time, they are shocked that a place so incredible can be so close to home.

I'm a crab fishermen in tofino shoot me a pm if you want some crabs when ur down in tofino. Ill sell it to you at wholesale price 10 dollars for a big crab!
