Factory alarm issue

I bought a 92 cherokee from some retard in maple ridge, and it has a factory alarm with a keypad on the dash. He unhooked the keypad and wired up a switch directly to the starter, so most times I have to hold the key in the start position and hit the new switch.

It's getting pretty ghetto, and today it stopped working all together.

How do I bypass this shit?

I googled a bit and found some answers, but they apply to newer models. I checked All-Data at work and couldn't find a disarm wire for the alarm for that year. I got a schematic for the module, but nothing close to a disarm wire.

I assume if you install an aftermarket alarm you need to bypass this, so there must be a way.

There's a purple wire with a yellow stripe coming in from the drivers door. Ground it. That kill the oem alarm.

A keypad? I remember an aftermarket piece like that disabled the starter without a proper code....Can you post a picture of it?

Or you can remove the dome light cover and unplug the factory alarm module.
If your Jeep has a factory alarm it will have a black bubble (like a mini security camera one) in your dome light cover. The factory alarms in Jeeps of that vintage were infared and worked via line of sight hence the bubble on the DL cover.
Newer Jeeps 95 and up IIRC had the alarm built into the driver side lock window switch module.

That keypad thing isn't factory and most likely the root of all your troubles. I'd suggest popping into a vendor here but seeins how your in the city of squampton that's a bit of a trek for a ten minute fix. Instead if you're not color blind and have crimpers, butt connectors, or preferably a soldering iron with the knowledge to use it right and a phillips screw driver. I will suggest bypassing it yourself its easy.
Start by removing the factory plastic trim panel at the base of the steering column there should be four phillips screws holding it on. Next remove the steel panel beneath that same procedure. With these removed you gain access to the column harness, it is a large harness protected by a woven plastic sheath that most likely has been cut open by the previous dude who installed the after market immobilizer. Look for the starter wires power wires and ignition wires that have been interupted remove what they had done and reconnect matching the wire colors and gauge.
Power will be Pink/black or Red/white. The starter wire (the one most likely interrupted and causing the grief) Will be a smaller wire and its Yellow/dark blue and the final one will be your ignition wire and it is Dark blue/grey.
The secondary colors I listed (the ones following the / are trace colors) so as an example that would be a Pink wire with a Black stripe.
This is all information assuming a Grand Cherokee as it was very rare for a Classic Cherokee to have a factory alarm at all.

thanks phil, I'll try that. it is a classic cherokee, not the grand cherokee. it does have that black bubble in the overhead console though. I'll see what I find up there if If it won't start with keiths wire colors.
