Sure brings back memories of my F717....that thing was and still one of my favourites.

Was about to jump ship on the GF1. DAMN!

Looks like the sensor size is larger than the 4/3rds sensor. :)

More info here too!

It's interesting how Sony is planning their camera strategies.

First Alpha, then NEX, and supposedly they are going with lens-interchangeable camcorder too (as mentioned here )

When all Sony lenses become adaptable to each other, we might have Sony to grow as a serious competition to Canon/Nikon.

Any thoughts on Canadian pricing ?

c3m 05-11-2010 01:15 PM

^ it should be same or very similar to US price

NEX - 5 /w 18-55mm: 699.99USD
NEX - 5 /w 16mm: 649.99USD

NEX - 3 /w 18-55mm: 599.99USD
NEX - 3 /w 16mm: 549.99USD

and here's a 70-400mm G on the NEX5

endless402 05-11-2010 11:21 PM

looks thin enough to be able to take adapters in order to use legacy lenses

better sensor than epl-1 but are the jpegs better?

good first attempt. i like the tilting lcd.

entire package of lens + body is kind of pricey vs epl-1 and no in camera anti shake for some reason....

Senna4ever 05-12-2010 12:03 AM

That 70-400 G lens is fucking amazing. Super sharp, very contrasty.

.

here's a preview / review of the NEX5
http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/NEX5/NEX5A.HTM

there are samples pictures and comparison with cameras like Canon T1i, Panasonic G2, Olympus EP-1 etc.. Not sure if it's jpeg comparison or raw thought

LiquidTurbo 05-12-2010 02:02 PM

Will there be a Canon/Nikon response to these cameras?

ddr 05-12-2010 02:11 PM

i love the sweep pano mode and the handheld twilight mode works extremely well on my hx5v. i think all cameras should have these features.

LiquidTurbo 05-12-2010 02:19 PM

^
Werd. The Pano feature would save a lot of time!

moky 05-12-2010 02:28 PM

reading briskly from the website, is the only difference between the nex5 and nex3, the HD Video capablity?

skyxx 05-12-2010 02:35 PM

^ Button layout, Thickness and 1080 Vs 720p video recording. Other than that it's pretty much the same.

I've sold one of them at my shop... I love playing around with it but I never get to do a serious test with it.

Someone at Reifel let me put my A700 body on his 70-400. It just blew me away how good it is. Dare I say it's as sharp as the Nikon 400mm f2.8 VRII at f5.6? It seemed like it.

skyxx 05-12-2010 10:33 PM

Sort of related. Sony just announced a consumer camcorder with an Interchangeable lens system.

moky 05-13-2010 06:46 PM

in response to liquid turbo's query, i've read somewhere about rumours of Canon possibly making their version of a micro 4/3rs, something along the lines of an EVIL camera.

endless402 05-13-2010 08:44 PM

bet canon or nikon wont build their IS within their body...

they should build a full frame mirrorless camera

Levitron 05-13-2010 10:23 PM

Meowjin 05-14-2010 05:18 PM

i wonder what the nikon system will look like.

Come to think of it.. I bet Nikon won't respond to this with a particular model per say. They didn't succumb to the megapixel race and kinda do things based on their own interests. Their priorities are probably on buffing up their HD vid capabilities than to compete in this market.

TSX04 05-16-2010 12:07 PM

theres a video review on cnet http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-20004552-1.html

actually there have been patents from nikons and they are probably going to release one in the coming year.

skyxx 05-17-2010 12:38 AM

Canadian pricing for NEX-5 with 18-55mm Kit lens is 799.99. Not that bad considering it's 699.99 USD.

And according to test, the LCD on the NEX series cameras are very accurate in terms of full coverage of actual image. :)
