Why not cheap out a little on the processor and get a 5850? Way better than a 5770.

DuhDang 05-27-2010 12:56 AM

I chose the 965 because higher clock speed is better than more cores for gaming.
And i can OC a lot more because all the cores are unlocked (but iam not going too).

5850 is almost double the 5770.
Waiting for it to drop a bit :)

DuhDang 05-27-2010 02:04 AM

I considered this too, but I took the x6 because this would be more "futureproof"

And the OC capability of the x6 is pretty solid too.

+1

The next card up on 5770 is double the price, I'd have to cut a LOT to afford the 5850, eg. case, aftermarket heatsink, smaller HD, weaker PSU

Rather upgrade the video card later on when I need it.

Can't wait! Now to decide on a new game, getting bored of L4D2/the community for this game is dying.

DuhDang 05-27-2010 01:01 PM

bad company 2.
Iam the one who made the thread on revscene and can't even run it lol.
NOW i can

Performance is also doubled as well, which makes it a steal.

Hi guys
I have decided to build a new set up. Could you guys give me some feedback?
Antec Sonata 1 Case (reusing)
HP monitor 1440x900 (reusing)
3gb DDR2 ram @ 667mhz (reusing)
HD5750 $119.99 after MIR http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=48965

OCZ 500Watt PSU $29.99 after MIR http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...4&promoid=1068

AMD Athlon x 3 435 $81.38 http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=45591

Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H AMD785G mATX AM2+ PCI-E DDR2 $73.99

http://ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=41233

Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB SATA2 3.5IN 8.5MS 7200RPM 16MB $46.99
http://ncix.com/products/index.php?s...0&promoid=1068

Total before MIR and taxes= $ $397.34

Is there anyway I can reduce the cost? Is getting a motherboard with on board graphics and then using a separate video card fine? Will staying with DDR2 be fine or should I go DDR3?

Thanks in Advance

Not really racist! 05-28-2010 10:15 PM

where do u guys download / get your OS?

Yeah I'm planning on going DDR2, but I am not 100% sure yet.

Are you planning on gaming?
If so, I'd suggest paying the extra $40-50 to get the 5770.

Otherwise your build is already pretty barebone and can't cut much. Maybe get a hitachi deskstar HDD so you can get more storage space for the same price.

DuhDang 05-29-2010 07:15 AM

i took the hit and paid 10 more for a mobo and 10 more for ddr3 ram its worth it IMO.
Don't cheap out and in the future your like FUUUUUUU can't upgrade

yeah I will be gaming. I looked at benchmarks and 5770 is only better than 5750 by 7-10 fps.. I don't know if I want to pay like $30 more for it.

Yeah.. I am kind of thinking of getting DDR3 since DDR2 prices now are messed up anyways. How does DDR3 feel compared to DDR2? Like can you tell any differences?

I downloaded mine through MSDNAA. Sucks now that the terms over I can't access the site anymore, I lost my win7 64bit cdkey :(

Had my order placed, price matched approved and product order verified (all items in stock) on the 26th.

Site says 1-3 business days to have the parts ready.
NCIX richmond is open saturday and sunday, but those two days don't count as business days though right.

DuhDang 05-30-2010 10:27 PM

you should of just went to ncix and price matched on the spot.

Razor Ramon HG 05-30-2010 10:28 PM

Just out of curiosity, what do you guys think of this build I just came up with? My budget is $1000 with monitor included.

Antec Sonata III Black ATX 16IN Mid Tower Quiet Case 3X5.25 2X3.5 4X3.5IN 500W 120MM Fan
AMD Athlon II X4 635 Quad Core Processor AM3 2.9GHZ 2MB L2 Cache 95W 45NM Retail Box

LG W1942TQ-BF 19IN Widescreen LCD Black 5ms 1440X900 8000:1 300CD/M2 VGA DVI-D F-ENGI *IR-$30*

A little over $1000 after environmental fees.

illicitstylz 05-30-2010 11:06 PM

How much was monitor? Would've went with a higher resolution monitor, the 5770 can handle 1920x1280

And since you have 1100 budget and it's still under that budget, upgrade to the x4 955/965, great for oc'ing, will give you great gaming performance.
Posted via RS Mobile

DuhDang 05-30-2010 11:23 PM

iam using 965 and running everything smooth as a babys bum. With no OC

DuhDang 05-30-2010 11:24 PM

oh get a heatsink 2 or your com will be loud as fuck

How does price matching at ncix work? Just ask one of the employees you want to price match, and show them the site?

DuhDang 06-18-2010 03:11 PM

yessir.
