Class 5 Road Test

So I was supposed to go get my class 5 back in 2004, but I was lazy, and now that I have this new job it requires me to have a class 5, so I have my test on the 18th in Burnaby. Can anyone let me know what route they take in Burnaby? Some good pointers? I really need to get this 100% so any info will be much appreciated!! TIA!

Brush up on those "hazard perception" stuff. Oh an remember to do the 360 degree check before starting off from the parking lot or going into reverse

hire a driving teacher for like an hour, they'll point out your bad habits and show you the routes, sure 100%

I agree, I had my old driving instructor teach me for 2 hrs the day before my Class 5 exam, and he really pointed out some bad habits I had. Also took me along a route that my driving examiner DID take when i was doing my exam.

Overall, Class 5 is easy, there are no pull overs or parallel parking, examiner didnt even ask me hazard perception. Basically drove out of ICBC, went on Hwy 1, took the next exit off, then a couple loops around School Zones/Parks, and back to ICBC.

6 years later...that's pretty fucking lazy

raygunpk 05-13-2010 11:57 AM

in the burnaby one, you go through this route that takes you past 8 rinks, and you turn right into the highway merge. that right turn light has a sign that says no right turn unless it's a green light...so make sure you wait for the green light no matter how clear it is.

All you do is drive around go on the highway and back in at the end.. really easy test.

place $500 on the passenger's seat.

when i took my class 5 roadtest in burnaby many years ago, i went through the following areas:

-behind staples on lougheed
-wendy's on boundary and grandview
-1st ave and boundary
-hwy 1 exit towards mcd's @ stillcreek

be cautious of schoolzones in downhill areas, you'll easily roll over 30kph if you're not paying attention.

^ They have multiple routes now and they change it all the time. It's best if you book an instructor for about 2 hours. They know most of the updated routes and will correct your bad habits. One of the more popular route is deer lake where you can go a maximum of 30km/h. Sometimes they will go Royal oak, Kensington exit, Canada way, the Hastings area. They will usually make you pull over and park and ask you some hazard perceptions. It varies with each examiner. Then again, please book an instructor. They will have the most up to date info.

I'll be nice and add some more "tips". Remember when you come to a full stop, the wheels of the car in the front must be visible. Always monitor your speed, especially going downhill. Don't drive too slow. When you merge on to the highway, always keep at a constant speed. If you slowdown a bit you will get points deducted. READ SIGNS! The Examiner won't tell you to merge to the left/right when you're on a merging lane, so signal whenever. Hands at 3/9 position, cross hands as you turn. Don't do the stupid sliding method or whatever you call that thing. Don't get too close to either side of the lane. If you drive a manual car, put it in gear when you come to a full stop and don't change gears as you turn.

Anyway, go book a damn instructor.

wtf?
class 5 sounds easier than class 7.
I had to do parallel parking, pullovers, 3 way turn etc
and my examiner failed me because I was driving too slow (cuz there were so many frekaing speed bumps but of course he didnt care)

skyxx 05-13-2010 02:19 PM

^ Of course it's easier. Your driving is "suppose" to be second nature by the time you take your class 5.

ajax 05-13-2010 02:24 PM

Anyone taken one at the new PoCo center? What are the routes like there?

thats true.
but also you would think that they would test the harder stuff once driving becomes 2nd nature.

Thanks for all the info guys! Ya I know I've been too lazy to go get it, I've never actually needed it so I always brushed it off. Just had another question regarding cross walks. Say I arrive at a cross walk with 4 lanes of traffic (2 north and 2 south bound) and I'm in the first lane he crosses, will I get deducted marks if I don't wait for him to cross all 4 lanes? Or is it okay if I start going after he crosses my lane? Which is what most people do, including me. Thanks!

well, i just got my class 5 about a month or so ago. instructor took me on hwy 1, drove around school zones and parks and that was basically it. the instructor didn't even test me on 3 point turns when i thought that's what was on the test as well

Fafine 05-13-2010 04:07 PM

i had my class 5 in nov, there was no three point turn

lilaznviper 05-13-2010 05:05 PM

i did my class 5 a few months ago
no 3 point turns no pp

i went around bcit then hit hwy 1 from willingdon to sprotts and then around a school and was asked hazard perception while driving

monkeywrench 05-13-2010 05:45 PM

Some areas have eliminated the 3-point turns for the exams

PM me if you need an instructor, for Richmond and Vancouver

you go on lougheed, thru shaughnessy, zig zag around the parks and high school, back on lougheed, then over the new bridge and back at the drivers center.

illicitstylz 05-13-2010 06:53 PM

Best tip that's been mentioned numerous times is to hire a driving instructor for 1-2 hours prior to the driving test to correct any small bad habits and mistake

class 5 was a breeze. Depends on the instructor I guess. When I sped in 30 zones and such the instructor just asked me did you see the 30km sign, and I said nope and no points deducted lol

My route was from icbc centre
turned right onto lougheed
right on to willingdon
enter hw 1
exit canada way
go back to icbc

JSALES 05-13-2010 08:45 PM

^ instructor did the same thing when i turned into a park, he just gave me the hint "nice playground" haha

Benz_05TSX 05-14-2010 02:40 AM

If you have been driving this long... then class 5 is easy. I dropped in and passed.

StealthFighter 05-14-2010 01:44 PM

i took 1 hour with an instructor going through the mcdonald street icbc. did the playground thing, went for a sprint around ubc. i think i did reverse park.
