hello fellow YVRppl.. I haven't been on RS for a while and in this forum even less. I can't believe I didn't find this thread earlier! anyways, I've been working part-time in the airport since late 1997/early 1998. I started with AIF and then also worked for Canada Customs for two years. I still work for AIF occasionally but not too often because I'm lazy :p I'm guessing I've probably seen some of you around but who knows.. btw, do any of you "food" ppl need airport RAP (those blue or red) passes for work?

This thread is old but yeah. I just landed a job at the airport with CruiseShip and my friend is currently looking for any type of job at the airport. I told her I'd keep my eyes peeled but if any of you have any leads, please post up. Thanks :)

way2quik 05-09-2004 09:41 AM

if any of you guys plan to work at BK. Be prepared because the manager has grudges on a lot of her employees. Me and two other friends had to quit because she said to one of my friend "you look like SHIT today." And the other got fired, and i just quit. :p

TCB007 05-09-2004 06:54 PM

yeah wow this is an old thread.. I stopped working at the airport last year... I kinda miss that place

I'm there working for the Airport Authority as a summer student. Work term ends at the end of September though.

whats ur major and what are ur duties?

meh 07-29-2004 12:49 PM

I just completed a BSc in Biology from UBC and I'm going back this fall into Pharmacy. However, the job only requires that you are a post-secondary student who is returning to school in the fall.

There are about 28 students working throughout the summer months. Our duties include:

1) Unloading luggage trucks and moving bags to an area where American passengers who just came off a cruiseship can pick them up.
2) Meeting incoming busloads of american cruiseship passengers at the airport and giving them pre-flight speeches....and then controlling the busflow up to the airport curb.
3) Line control when its busy in the terminal
4) On the floor customer service
5) Running the cruiseship operations (getting cruiseship passengars to the cruiseship facility where they go through US customs and security)

It's actually a pretty good job. If you don't like physical labour, you can pretty much get away without lifting a bag the whole summer if you like and the rest of the day is pretty much spent walking around helping out people.

:lol Yeah that's us alright. We actually do work but most of it is in the Departures F area (UFO) with the cruiseship passengers. If you see us anywhere else in the airport, then yeah, there's a good chance you'd see us standing around :D. Not too shabby for $11/hour.

pizzaMR2 07-31-2004 12:08 AM

$11

nice!

TCB007 07-31-2004 05:43 AM

$11/hr is pretty good considering what you guys do :)

pizzaMR2 07-31-2004 12:04 PM

hahhaa..I see you guys standing around and u'r just leting ppl ask u questions and that's it.

I think I saw a few help out the hot chicks too

hahaha..nice!

Well, aside from the cruise ship operations, that is what we are hired to do! :D No complaints here.
