Korea Warship Crisis

Most people might not have known but about a month ago, there was a sinking of a South Korean Warship.

Now independent international investigators have concluded that it was caused by a North Korean Torpedo.

The south korean president vowed to take "resolute countermeasures" against north korea. North korean officials are accusing south korea of forging evidence and threaten with "severe consequences up to total war" in case of repercussions or sanctions.

The beginnings of World War 3? Another Gulf of Tonkin Incident? It doesn't take a degree in Poli Sci to see how this could easily spiral out of control.

Jsunu 05-20-2010 08:03 AM

I can't see this as a another world war. I do see the potential for a north south conflict... which would be probably resolved through talks.

jpark 05-20-2010 08:04 AM

the saddest part about this terrible accident was that the sacrifices of the navy was used by political campaign, so terrible

Ducdesmo 05-20-2010 08:15 AM

The world is a mess right now and its only gonna get messier.

asian_XL 05-20-2010 08:17 AM

WW3? pfft. Everyone is busy with their own economy. UN probably only says shit like no food for you in the next 3 yrs. I bet Lee Myung-bak will only tell the north kimchis "hey, you, don't do it again or I'll call for help" what can they fucking do.

Death2Theft 05-20-2010 08:28 AM

Who needs a world war when eco terrorists now can blow up a couple oil rigs and hold the worlds drinking water for ransom.

who needs eco terrorizors when oil rigs blow up themselves, and hold worlds drinking water for ransom -- all by themselves.

They should settle it with a game of Starcraft.

AzNightmare 05-20-2010 09:05 AM

This issue is too minor for WW3.

N and S Korea are still (technically) at war.

They probably do... not like they would let anyone outside of N. Korea know about it.

unit 05-20-2010 10:06 AM

holy fuck look at that crane!!

Toeknee 05-20-2010 10:18 AM

Why call WW3 when I don't see how this would lead to the rest of the world fighting?

twitchyzero 05-20-2010 10:29 AM

if this does lead into warfare
would prc jump in and help out the north?

TOPEC 05-20-2010 10:46 AM

is that a really really big crane, or a really really small "war" ship

no way.
PRC would probably just load up on the border to provide some "official" moral support. But really, they're just gonna be there to prevent the flood of migrants from entering China

Doubt it, even they are tiring of North Korea.

StylinRed 05-20-2010 12:15 PM

When news first spread about the incident it seemed like everyone assumed North Korea attacked them.... but here's the thing, no one cares... or more precisely no one dares to care; so they left it strictly between North and South to deal with the matter

The USA will stay inbetween them but if the South decides its going to war over the incident (it wont) you can definitely expect the USA to advise against it but if they choose to go through with it it would mean an end to US defense of the border

the USA can't afford the wars its in let alone another one which will bring China into it; you won't see events which led to WW2 happen again especially when there's no interest for the Bigger parties

Although rumor has it that Kim Jong-Il went to China asking for support and China rejected it, it's hard to say that China will stay neutral/allied with US when US/NATO will be hovering over near their soil.

Heck, this might be the only chance for China to become world superpower as history has shown, every time the superpower changes, it takes a war to do that.

b-dub 05-20-2010 01:18 PM

There won't be a WW3 as long as Obama's in the house. He's too anti-war.
