DDMtuning. duty problems.

No I'm not constipated.
I've looked around the site... Lots of parts for cheap.

only problem is you can't avoid the duties.
I've called DDM 1800# and they need your shipping address to be your billing address as well. So shipping to Point Roberts is out of the question.
And they use UPS so duties will rape you, over and over.
I joined the bcbimmer forums and the guy repping DDM sounds like a power tripping douche (IMO) and every question regarding duties he just turns into a troll fk...

So bottom line. Is there any way around duties for Canadians? Anyone have any luck with DDM in canada?

have the seller ship it as a "gift" or have the seller devalue your part.

Duties and taxes are not really avoidable. If you ship via ordinary post into Canada, the packages might slip by CCRA (or whatever they call themselves).

If you ship to PR/Blaine or whatever you could smuggle them back across the border to avoid tax and duty. This is of course illegal and if caught... you might not like the consequences. Your choice.

its not smuggling when you tell the border guard what you have and they just waive you through...

Forget point roberts, those assholes will make you pay duty on the chewing gum in your mouth... And I really mean duty, not just pst and gst.

Blaine on the other hand will let things slide 9/10 times, just be nice and honest. They have let me through with hundred$ without paying a dime and even a thousand$ after spending the weekend. Having more than less passengers helps too, also if they do ask you to pay it's always just pst and gst, I've never paid a dime of duty in five years of crossing Blaine.

Cool Thx guys.

Never had problems with point roberts before and it's only a 25 min commute +cheap gas fill ups, but maybe just me. As for duties isn't it payed already when you sign for the package before it comes back into Canada? or am I wrong? (and lucky)

So lets say I stick with Point Roberts, I can add someone else's u.s. address on my CC as a secondary? koolz!

duty is only charged by the CBSA/CRA, it can be collected by the courier or by canada post if you are shipping directly to canada. some couriers charge a handling fee and the CBSA will charge a minimum fee for their time. the courier will not charge duty or canadian taxes if you are shipping within the same country (us > us, can > can).

if you ship to point roberts just add the mailing address to your credit card as you mentioned, it doesnt matter if it doesnt belong to you, its just an address not a name and address. some merchants are sticklers and wont call your bank to verify, they only want to use the billing address. im not sure if ddm is like that as when i dealt with them i used paypal. paypal is easier for me, the merchant never gets your credit card number and paypal already has my us shipping address on file, no need to type it in again.

when you cross the border and deal with a CBSA officer you may or may not have to pay taxes and duty. ive heard that point roberts doesnt let things slide and that they follow the book. ie, if you bring back a $100 item and were only gone for less than 48 hours then you have a $0 exemption limit. at the blaine crossing the CBSA will most likely tell you to drive ahead, if they do ask you to go inside and pay then it will just be 12% for pst and gst. if at the point roberts crossing they will tell you to go inside and pay it will be 12% for pst and gst plus they will ding you for duty since they follow the book... that could be another 5-20% depending on where the goods were made.

as mentioned, tell them to us USPS. I had the same problem with DDMtuning about different billing and shipped address'. I was very disappointed in their customer service. I ordered a HID kit and honestly it took me 2 months to receive it, and that was shipping it to a US address (bellevue, washington). Everytime i called they would get mixed up whether it was shipped or not. It came to the point where i had to call them everyday to see ask if it's been shipped. Finally it arrived.

Werd, if you use paypal they only get one address so there shouldn't be any mix up.
