hmm this is getting pretty serious sure suicides occur from poor working conditions..but to have 13 suicides that actually happen in the workplace in a span of few month really worries me it's like some sick twisted omen placed onto the factory all of a sudden. |
This is what happens when your company is probably somehow spearheaded by gangster money and corrupted business men Posted via RS Mobile |

Another example of how money is perceived in China. If you get hit by a car, depending on which limb was injured, you get paid accordingly. I think an arm is like, say 100K RMB. So what do people do? They purposely get hit by cars. It's worth their while. |
its bullshit that they are complaining about long work hours.... they are complaining the lack of proper overtime pay cuz foxconn used a grey area in the law to not pay the worker with full ot. my workers are more then happy to work overtime as they got nothing better to do when they are not working anyways. they even complain when I don't OT them! every fucking factory is the same in terms of work load, they do the shit every day like a robot. managing a factory with 1000 workers is already tough... I can't imagine how difficult it is to manage a factory for 400,000 people... isnt that the population of richmond? |
heard this on the radio today, a new paper(apple daily) reports on foxconn - they sent in a news paper reporter as an undercover worker along with another few guys from various news paper agencies - when the undercover worked there for 1 month, the following was observed - u have to sign a "contract" which agrees u r WILLING to work overtime, if u dont sign the contract, u only get $900RMB monthly (which equates to a little below $150 canadian) - the undercover guy that was sent in was a smart and lively dude, but after one month of working for foxconn, he came out like a zombie, he became a dull, dumb founded person, could not speak properly, could not say complete sentences, as if he has become part of the assembly line machinery/brain washed - the undercover was suppose to call back every night to report on whats going on, but after working there for 1 week, the calls stopped - no one seems to know much about the suicides, when asked, people just shrugged it off and seem to avoid the topic theres a few more points that i forgot what they were. |
from what i heard (through relatives), this foxconn media buzz are causing lots of company CEO's (mostly wealthy/hk owners) to go to ML china to discuss with workers/govnt officials cause many factory workers are also complaining about their pay. |
Let me ask an ignorant question because I honestly have no idea. If these workers are struggling to make $150~ a month then what is the industry wage for a competing company? Foxconn's reputation must have spread far and wide yet the jobs seem sought after. I'm just trying to understand why |

the jobs are so sought after because $150 is ALOT to them. it may seem VERY LITTLE to u and me, but consider this, the workers get fed and have a place to live at when they work for foxconn, so all or most of the money will get sent back to their home village (where most of the workers come from) to feed family and relatives, and when i say village, its the very gehtto kind of village where electricity, running water, and toilets dont exist. u'll have to dig a hole in the ground to take a shit. so $150/$900RMB is ALOT to them, and when they hear this company offers this kind of money with this kind of benifits, and all u have to do is sit there and assemble parts, everyone rushes to get a position in the company. these r uneducated people im talking about here. |
^^^ a factory dormitory is the norm in China since the commies came so that aspect wouldnt be appealing at all but the money is a tonne for villagers |

In Shenzhen you spend money roughly the same way as how you'd spend money in HK. If you made $900 a month in HK you'd die too. |
crazy company |
The reality is that we're pretty much, in some way or another, responsible for what's going on over there - whether you consume the products made in China, or are involved in the industry in sales, in logistics, etc. The only thing left I can say is that I'm thankful that my father's parents sacrificed their lives so that I could live here in relative peace and comfort. |
