i just hit up kimura sushi and it was amazing. it was my first time going so i was unsure what to order, played it safe with the Take which is great value 15 bucks gets you 6 peices of sushi, plate of sashimi, plate of tempura, miso soup and ice cream. on top of that got the spicy tuna on the rice, some steak tofu ?, 2 spicy tuna cones and got suckered into getting the local fresh uni which was the special of the day.

anyone recommend any other dishes to try out?

Is it just me or did their service get worst? Anyways, been here before for lunch but haven't came back for awhile. So this is the first time i've been here since the redecoration and first time having dinner there as well.

Visited Kimura last Saturday and the place was crazy busy that night, which is a good sign for any restaurant. New decor looked great and the place was buzzing. Luckily i reserved a table ahead of time so i had no problem getting seated while i watched them turn 10+ people away since they were full. While they clearly hired more waitresses than before (compared to my lunch experience anyways), they still managed to miss out on what i'd view as standard expectations in terms of service (not providing a menu within the first 5 minutes, taking forever to refill my tea, clueless about how many courses were actually available for their omakase, the list goes on).

Anyways, i tried their $30 omakase that night. While i wasn't particularly impressed with the flavors for most of the dishes, you do get good value in terms of the amount of food you get. From what i remember (and in no particular order), you get a cold appetizer dish (3 mini side dishes - shishamo, random veg, other one i forgot), salmon carpaccio, baked oyters in some sort of sauce (one of them did not taste right), ahi tuna (?) with cream cheese, small sushi plate (3-4 pieces of sushi plus a piece of burnt/crispy rice with some random fish and sauces on top, which was really the only thing i enjoyed), and ice cream. Might have left a dish out and my description may not be as accurate as i'd hope, but that's mainly because the waitresses never bothered to tell me anything about what i was eating.

Perhaps it's bad luck that I visited them on a busy day, but nonetheless, i'm scratching this place off for a place i'd revisit for dinner. While i'll probably be back for lunch, i'm sticking to their sushi menu exclusively. His dishes just did not do it for me. On another note, i've never seen a restaurant having to apologize to their customers so often either for slow service or for food taking forever to arrive. Pretty much every table around us received an apology of some sort for one reason or another. And if you've been to this place before, you'd know that pretty much means everyone in the restaurant minus the customers at the sushi bar (i'd bet they got an apology too, as most of them were there before me and i already stayed 1.5hrs).

Forgot to mention the highlight of the night for me: the new Malaysian restaurant next door looks great. Think I'll give that a try next time instead!
