Kimura Sushi Have any of you guys tried out this place by 22nd and Rupert. It's pretty good. They have Japanese waitresses and a real Japanese chef. Food kind of pricey $15 - 20 but worth it. They d0on't have a lot of rolls but the specialty is in nigiri sushi. everything tasted so fresh. Friend wanted a sushi made the way he wanted it but chef was like try it my way and if you dont like it you get it for free. My friend was pretty surprised and thanked the chef cuz it was good.they have like 3 types of tuna and maguro was awesome. highly recommended. check it out! |
I went today and loved it. Prices weren't bad I don't think for the quality. Chef was friendly. And the place is quite modern+unique. The chef designed majority of the place (music, ambience and even made the lamp shades himself) and created all the dishes with care. Everything was fresh and they keep the menu really simple. 2 pages, and 1 special sushi combo menu. I'm definitely going to be going again Posted via RS Mobile |
interesting. because i think the flipino/asian food restuarant before them got shut down and ran out of business in about 1 year |
^it was a pho place before how big are the portions? i dont feel like acrossing the street for a small portion -______- |
I was pretty full from my special sushi combo. 11 pieces of nigiri sushi, 4 piece cali roll and mini udon (size of a miso soup cup from sushi town/garden) for $13 bucks. Momma Crayon had a bowl of ramen (really good imo) and she gave me some noodles to share. Posted via RS Mobile |
Might try this place out tonight. :) Is this place cash only or do they accept Debit/Visa/Mastercard as well? |
They accept credit card. Pretty sure they accept debit too? What made me feel even better about this place was besides me and Momma Crayon, every group in there were Japanese. Me + 5 groups? Seats about 8 or 9 tables of 4. Posted via RS Mobile |
Tonight is a no-go. They close at 6pm and my ladyfriend isn't off work until 7:30. Closed Monday as well. Guess I'll have to try again next time! |
I was there last week, it's pretty good but yea not a lot rolls. |
Anyone know the hours Mon-Fri? Or whatever the breakdown would be? |
Monday is closed, I know that for sure. |

And they also have that cleaning/prep up between lunch and dinner. I forget the exact time though. |
Business Hours Tue-Thu Lunch 11:30 - 2:30 Dinner 5:30 - 9:30 Friday L 11:30- 2:30 D 5:30 - 10:00 Sat L 11:30- 2:30 D 5:00 - 10:00 Sunday 11:00 - 5:30 Last order Closed Mondays Went today to try it, had the special and a fried pork culet :) Special was awesome, everything tasted fresh, but there was this one item that was totally melt in my mouth i wanted more.. but i duno what it is... kinda looked like tuna.. :( Pork cutlet was a bit chewy.. and girlfriend thought it tasted watery.. (seemed like they boiled the pork, then breaded and finished in the deep fryer..) Overall good experience.. Waitress's were friendly but didn't pay attention >.>.. aka they kept staring off into space.. had to wave them down 3 times before they noticed us asking for bill.. (actually the chef noticed us waving and got them to come over..) |
Went to Kimura yesterday. I had the beef curry rice with salad while my lady friend had the potato croquette with rice. The beef curry was...different. It had a tangy flavour to it but was good. The potato croquette was awesome too. We both had a piece of sockeye salmon sushi and two pieces of chopped scallop. Overall, it wasn't so bad. Total came to $28 and change. My dining experience was completely ruined because we had a bone-headed waitress who: 1. Had absolutely no idea what we were trying to order. 2. Made things very awkward. Asked me if I wanted tea when I finished drinking it and this was even before we started eating. 3. Shoved a fork in front of my face while she was trying to serve us. A big WTF. I'd go back only if she is not there. She has absolutely no serving skills whatsoever. I hope some employee is reading this. :lol |
one word, good =) imo taste nothing like those cheap chinese/vietnamese (no offense) 'japanese' restaurant lol, tasted more like the real deal my new fav restaurant, good thing is i live like across from there LOL |
i went there sunday night at 7, but they closed. so i went to Kura instead. still good as always :) i'd love to try it next time i come back to vancouver though, hopefully they are still around. |
the curry rice tasted exactly like the ones i had in japan. also the waitresses are noobs there. they dont really know what they are doing most of the time. but the sushi is awesome. runs out quick because they keep them low in quantity and fresh. |
I agree. The waitresses seriously need proper training. The level of professionalism is next to none, I would rather chance it and get takeout. |
anyone got their menu? and do they do take-out? |
i like the inexperienced waitress there. They way she runs around like a headless chicken makes her real cute. |

gave it a try yesterday with my wife. had the special sushi combo, negitoro roll, chopped scallop cone and uni. overall, the quality was only mediocre. for some strange reason, the chef insists on putting a stroke of soy sauce on top of every piece. i'm guessing it helps mask the quality of some of the fish. also, my uni was not as "fresh" as they claimed, there was a bitter taste to it. however, value wise, that special sushi combo is hard to beat at $15. will i be back? possibly. but only when i'm in burnaby and craving sushi, since there's not much in the area. |
Hmm...I've driven past that area a ton of times and never noticed it there. Will have to go check it out sometime since it's in my neighbourhood. |
