help: graduation (not mine)

This morning my mother told me my sister graduation's is tmr (8am) at UBC.

I have a few questions to ask:

Should I bring her flowers? If so, what kind is appropriate?

Is there free parking on that specific day for students who are graduating?

How long is the whole thing (including the picture time, etc) from your experience? I have a lab at 2pm, so I hope I won't be late.

What else should I be aware of?

TIA

mod, sorry for posting here instead of the campus forum, but I think it would be more useful to ask ppl who have graduated instead of ppl who are still in school.

ubc convo are usually 90 min each
no such thing as free parking on campus

BrRsn 05-30-2010 03:04 PM

Yes, buy flowers. If you can't find any at 8am, hopefully UBC will have a booth already set up by the Chan Centre where the flag pole is.

Parking at Rose Parkade used to be free. It is now $5 if you are attending the graduation ceremonies.

It'll be raining, bring an umbrella.

Photos look best if you stand in the middle of the grass, looking away from the flagpole on Main Mall.

I remember parking was free at specific parking lots on convocation days

^ not anymore, UBC never lets up an opportunity to milk its students dry

You should probably just by flowers now...

orange7 05-30-2010 06:37 PM

my sister told me like 2 months ago, but I forgot.

Luckily my mother reminded me this morning.

StylinRed 05-30-2010 06:45 PM

friend told me they're not open until 10am

orange7 05-30-2010 06:49 PM

kk.. i guess it means I gotta get flowers now at safeway.

thanks anyways

misteranswer 05-30-2010 06:58 PM

They also sell flowers on location. I've never bought them, but I'm pretty sure there's a larger premium.

Why would you want to park at North Parkade, which is farther?

finally done.

$5 parking at rose parkade
there were flowers there, but we bought our own at Safeway.

the grad thing was exactly like high school, except minus the awards and scholarships.

mod, please either move this thread to the campus forum or delete it.

nns 05-31-2010 11:15 AM

Hey, nobody cares about that. We want pics of your sister's tight curves.

Why not grab some flowers today and keep them cool overnight? Might be easier than trying to find a florist in the morning.

if we're not taling about weekends and evenings, the only free parking is on marine drive which is usually full by 7am. Aside from that I dont recall free parking anywhere else that wont take you 10 minutes to walk to your destination.
