best fine dining restaurant for girlfriends birthday!

I was wondering, which is a good fine dining restaurant in Vancouver that I can take my girlfriend out for her birthday. Price does not matter, please give me your opinions.

Thanks!

Le Crocodile and Lumiere - they are continually mentioned as best overall.

Been to Le Crocodile twice. Some time in between visits, but I can say that I enjoyed the food immensely both visits, and the consistency was definitely there. It doesn't get too over priced until you add the wine.

Is West still good after David Hawksworth's departure? I haven't been since before he left.

My picks:
- C
- Amarcord
- Le Crocodile
- Lumiere
- West
- Elixir
- Il Giardino

My gf and I went to Bacchus last weekend for our 1 year. Dinner was great. Atmosphere was nice....a little darker than your usual resturants. Le Crocodile is good too.

What is the dress code for Le Crocodile and Lumiere?

Bonka 06-01-2010 11:03 PM

Business casual, but I would avoid jeans.

C restaurant gets my vote

Le Crocodile, i would vote as my fav place.

Been to alot of nice restaurants in vancouver, and i would say its good price for the food if you don't go crazy on wine.

Vij's is awesome every time.

Les Faux Bourgeois is another excellent french restaurant

Bonka 06-02-2010 11:52 AM

Vij's doesn't take reservations and you can't just stroll in expecting to get seated immediately.

How long is the wait time usually?

Diva At The Met and Mistral gets my votes

Mistral I went recently and is one of the few places I've gone that gets the trifecta award from me. Good vibe, awesome service, and awesome food.

Amarcord
Provence Marinaside
C
Bacchus
Moustache Cafe in North Van

My most fave restaurants!

I like Blue Water Cafe. Although it can get a bit noisy.

Market was OK, nothing crazy though. I've only had drinks at Diva at the Met, but its a nice quiet romantic atmosphere. The Pourhouse isn't expensive, but has a pretty cool atmosphere and good food and drinks.

It's not always about the money and picking the most expensive restaurant. Unless that is what your gf is all about.

I'm a big fan of La Regalade in West Vancouver and La Buca in Kits.

West - there's enough reviews to show it's a great restaurant. yes, as someone mentioned, their head chef left so you might want to read up, i highly doubt it got worse. I've never been there during fine dining and it's always been great, from just having their entrees all the way to having catered meals by telling them a budget of 150 dollars a head.

Bacchus is great. the crowd might be a bit old cause that's where people go there to enjoy their whisky and cigars. it's not a hip place if you want to compare to other places.

Le Crocodile is ranked pretty high on by books, their desserts are awesome and one of the few places i would go along with W all the time.

Vij's is NOT a place to take your gf. It takes time and it's best to be in no rush before you go.

I've been to La Buca once and the food was pretty wicked. However, it was still the first and last time for me as they gave us pretty horrible service and made us cram 6 people in a 4 person table. We tried asking to take one of the emtpy 2 person tables and combining it with ours and they flat out denied us saying they were reserved. That was a lie because for the next 45 mins or so every 2 person party that came in had no reservations and took all those tables.
