the commercial design team was probably watching their hamster run on a wheel when they were brainstorming commercial ideas.
combine that with a stereotypical view on society
=
hamster thugs.
the cars not a bad mini suv family car but the commercial made it loose any class it might have had...

i think the marketing is clever in that they are targeting a specific demographic (inner city urban) but Disney-fied it to make you not realize it
