advice: should I buy this 510?

I want a Datsun

I want a Datsun real bad

http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/pm...745442851.html

been talking to the guy and the car seems legit, he's also interested in trading me straight up for my 1990 b16a integra, which im considering

how hard is it to find a headlight relay? any other things you think i should be aware of?

//RacingSpirit>> 06-04-2010 05:06 AM

Talk to Glen at Southside Nissan for any Datsun parts. You'll be surprised at how many Datsun parts are still available.

GabAlmighty 06-04-2010 05:37 AM

Please get it and save it, i've been eyeing that thing for a while. You could probably get it for less as its been up for ages. Goodluck with it, hope you get it.

josh t-1 06-04-2010 05:49 AM

has anyone gone to check this car out? i dont have the ability to do so but if someone has taken a look at it or is willing to go have a peak for me that would be cool!

josh t-1 06-04-2010 07:45 AM

and please no one snake it on me because of this thread lol...

sonick 06-04-2010 07:49 AM

Yesssss, 510's are awesome.

Delerious 06-04-2010 08:31 AM

That thing has been on there for at least 2 months now. I don't know why it's been on there so long but there must be something wrong with it if it hasn't sold at that price.

That being said, I wouldn't rely on it to be a daily until you can get it home and thoroughly inspect every inch of it. Headlight relay shouldn't be a big deal.

originalhypa 06-04-2010 09:34 AM

As time passes these cars are going to get harder and harder to find.
Go for it. It's not very much money, and no matter what you'll have fun building it.

good luck.

I say this car is not worth what he is asking.

He claims the car only has 26,000 original miles, yet he DD's this car.
In the pics, you can clearly see it has no plates.

Paint looks faded in the pics.

sonick 06-04-2010 11:00 AM

^ didn't notice he said 26k miles, looks more like it has 126k miles!

Cus its a four door if it was a two door it would be double the asking price and gone.
If you buy it I got a mean little 280z motor/trans with triple side drafts to drop into it:D

The guy's asking $3125, which is not a lot of money. So why not offer $2800?
I'm sure he's willing to take less if it's been for sale for so long.

Like Phil said, if it was a 2 door it would be selling for a lot more. The sedans have a lot of style though, and with so many performance cars in sedan form nowadays, it will fit right in.

skyxx 06-04-2010 11:57 AM

MMMM Datsun 510, The civic of the 60/70s. :D

josh t-1 06-04-2010 12:27 PM

He emailed me late last night and said he's going to write me the novel length history on the car... I'll post it up as soon as he does.

I was laughing at the 26000 miles as well... I might belive him if the odo was capable of going into hundred thousands lol

Aaaaah, one of those ones haha. You can always weld the rear doors closed, voila you now haz coupe.

racerman88 06-04-2010 01:16 PM

get it inspected. If it has to be air cared, check to see if the mileage matches up

I don't need air care up north :D but even if it does have 126000 I have a couple fresh datsun motors sitting in a garage just waiting to be dropped in a 510...

J____ 06-04-2010 02:15 PM

That car is a rip off. No way it's 26k miles. it's probably at least 126k because if like my 280z, the odo only has 5 digits. 2dr 510's are better than 4dr. and you'll need ALOT of custom work done to get that to run properly. The condition looks pretty bad. Be prepared to spend at least $5k ontop to get it running smoothly. These arent the type of cars that you can daily drive and not worry about it for 10k kms, you'll have to constantly check oil, fluids, etc etc, and expect things to break on you.

GabAlmighty 06-04-2010 02:21 PM

^^If i'm buying that car ALL i'm looking for is no rust and a structurally sound machine.

GabAlmighty 06-04-2010 03:39 PM

Hahahah, maybe he should ask this for it

"1982 DATSUN 150 Coupe, Red with only 120,000kms! Engine runs strong - tranny shifts good (auto), needs new battery and body is a bit rusty. Great project car or parts car - some what a collectible! $250 obo. Call me 604-916-7622"

some what a collectible! :haha:

orgasm_donor 06-04-2010 11:16 PM

I would love a 510 however, I would gladly pay double for a 2-door.
Even by today standards, these things handle like they're on rails!

josh t-1 06-05-2010 05:42 AM

I'm cool with a 4 door, it has more room so more of my friends could enjoy riding in it :)
