Speed up/Optimize Lightroom

http://www.oreillynet.com/digitalmed..._lightroo.html

With me being on a slower computer, using some of these tips are helpful.

I found that by increasing my RAW Cache, it's performing a lot better too when going back and forth photos in my catalog. Setting it at or above 20gb is ideal.

Useful tips. Even on my new iMac, Lightroom takes 40 seconds to open!

On my 3Ghz 17" Macbook Pro, LR2 takes 10 seconds to start up. Why is yours so slow?

Maybe try optimizing your catalog?

Try buying a cheap SSD (30GB) and run your catalog from there.

I have swapped my imac HDD with SSD, and everything is loaded within 5sec after I press it.

For people who have a huge catalog, invest in a SSD, you won't look back once you try it.

Just optimized it. Went down to 20 seconds! I wish mine takes 10 seconds or so to open up. My library isn't that big either, at only 30gb and 2500 pictures. Sigh.

Mine takes about 15-17 seconds to open up.

Perhaps the location of your files is on drive that's "sleeping"?

I have 100,000+ images...doesn't feel too slow, but there is a huge difference (obviously) rendering my 5DmkII 21MP RAW files vs. my 6MP Minolta 7D RAW & 12MP Sony A700 RAW files.
