Mini cooper question!

I'm looking to buy a used Mini because i really like how they look but have no idea if its a reliable car and if there's some problem with these cars. I'm mainly looking at the 02-05 manual and not the supercharged one because of the insurance.
So if anyone has had experienced with them or know some story please share .
Thanks!

I'd stick to 05+. They're generally reliable cars and are fairly cheap to maintain. Common issues include thermostat leaks and misc. minor oil leaks around the engine.

I have an 03 Cooper (non S) since new. Its generally been pretty reliable. I can attest to the thermostat prob (mine corroded). It was a cheap fix though, at around $100 bux, including labour.

Maintenance like typical european cars is pricier compared to japanese rivals, especially if you take it to the dealership. BMW / MINI will try to gouge you in every which way possible.
