The video lies, if you watch it. His weight belt appears, disappears, reappears, disappears several times on the ascent. This was quite clearly an edited video. Still cool though.

hmm..i watched it again while he was coming up didn't seem like the weightbelt dissapeared.
i forgot to equalize my ears the first time i dove even though the instructor taught me (in a different language i couldnt understand haha) so i had to bail after 10 meters cuz it was so painful.
I could see that being done. As he didn't move at all on the way down, conserving all his breath. Seems he had a "free fall" of maybe 1 minute? Last time I held my breath as long as I could it was 4.5mins. Seems doable, but there's so many cuts in the video. If it was all in one go then I would for sure say it's real, but it's just edited so much I don't know.

Wow 4.5 that's fucking long... How does his head not blow up with that pressure, when he came up that was nutty Posted via RS Mobile

Ya, it was at work when I was teaching swimming lessons. Only reason I stopped was cuz another guard came over and shook me cuz she thought i'd passed out :
You gotta remember that there's a whole "sport" based around this and in all honesty it didn't look "that" deep. I don't have the time to youtube any video's right now, i'll try and remember later. But I remember seeing some nutty stuff, the people basically strap themselves to a super heavy sled attached to a cable, plunge down then let go and some air filled bags to float themselves up.
im sure they took about 10 takes on the film itself. only one camera, so a bunch of takes.
There are very few people who can withstand more than 3 minutes without air.

Static breath holding, the most I was able to do was just over 4 minutes. That was with training while I was swimming, competitively. There was no way I was going to hold my breath that long while moving. I was only ever able to hold my breath for about 100 meters, and that had me seeing stars. I'm down around the 2 minute mark for breath holding now.
Those pearl divers in Polynesia/Micronesia are insane though. They dive to incredible depths and are down there for upwards of 4-5 minutes.
