^ no
more like if people are losing their jobs, they think it's a good time to go back to school and take some courses.

raygunpk 06-09-2010 12:33 PM

^yeah.
plus the only way to get some sort of "income" is by getting student loans. i was in that spot before, it's terrible.

Health Sciences 80% .

That means half the people were below >80 and half were <80 for the peopel admitted last year...

wrong.

What you've just described is the median, not the average (aka mean). The mean value is the average of a distribution, which can be skewed by a small number of kids with extremely high entrance averages or extremely low ones.

@OP: I suggest you physically talk to someone in the admissions department of the university. Tell the person you're a prospective student and you need advice. They will give you the best answer as well as provide the best recommedation.

why not finish your 2 years at kwantlen and get yourself a diploma in your field?
then transfer over to sfu/ubc for your bachelors?

Don't go to the admissions adviser, they're fricken robots with useless advice. Go to your department adviser, and talk to them about your situation and ask for the person who was in charge of your admissions. There are different people in charge of different applicants depending on the applicant's last name. For example, all the people with the last name starting with G's and such would have one person and the same would go on for all the other alphabetical characters. Do that and ask about appeals. Goood luck.

you're in hsci?! what year? lol. i got in with like 78ish too. OP, can you apply for something other than hsci, then transfer later? you can still take hsci courses

guddagudd 06-10-2010 04:38 PM

LOL, no i hate hsci, i just chose it because it was the lowest one. Well, one of the lowest ones I should say because aside from Arts and Business, all faculties are a min. 80% requirement.

wuuhoo 06-10-2010 05:52 PM

^I jsut applied to hsci because i jsut wanted to get in uni.

hsci isnt bad. Some courses are pretty interesting. I would have looked into the faculty if I really liked science, too bad i dont.

@lincolnboi, I'm first year (23 credits by the end of summer)

RevYouUp 06-17-2010 02:35 PM

I just received phone call from SFU and they said i got my offer revoked because my interm marks were at 78%.This is retarded they said they wont look at finals because its too full. I have 80% for my final mark too..They also said i could apply for spring semester because the admission % will be around 80 too. Man im fucked to the power of 10:(

Historically, enrollment at universities have gone up whenever economic times are bad.

It would make some sense, considering many people would otherwise be sitting at home. Paying for tuition is another story.

I know it seems ridiculous, considering that 3rd term is regarded as the most "important" by most teachers. Also, doing well in it over other terms indicates a sign of improvement.

However, the high volume of requests means that they won't have the time to review and handle applications after Term 3 marks are released (provincial marks are released in July).

simsimi1004 07-01-2010 09:01 AM

applications this year prbably went up becasue of the no provincial required. now everyone has a higher average cuz ur marks now depend on wat kind of teacher u get.

Yeah it is unfair now, because your mark really depends on which teacher you get..

Strzelec 07-01-2010 10:03 AM

Yeah true, however provincials can actually help people. Helped me with my math mark, was sitting low to mid 90's all semester, took the provincial, bumped me up to 98. Really helped offset my terrible English mark (I'm quite possibly the worst writer in history).

I had a choice of in class final or provincial for most of my classes, so I didn't completely get off the hook.
