A bit of a dilemma Hi, everyone I have a dilemma here. I applied to SFU for the Fall 2010 semester and they accepted me into their school. The mark that I said that I had was a bit higher than the mark I actually have and when report card time came 2 months ago, they saw my real mark. The average that I put into the early acceptance was 80.5%, but in actuality, I only have 79%. This caused them to withdraw their offer of admittance. School is not over yet though and I still have a chance to pull my mark up to 80% which is the requirement for the faculty I am going into, but they said due to the extreme number of people applying this year, they will not wait for the final grade. Do you guys think I can pull my mark up to 80% or higher and apply for the Spring 2011 semester and get in? Sorry if my question may be unclear, I am unsure myself. Thanks in advance! |
isn't 80% just for guaranteed admission? What program are you looking at? |
Hey, thanks for the reply I am applying for Health Science. How do you know if 80% is the guaranteed admission? In the email i received, they said to look for alternatives to SFU and they did say they withdrew my admission so I am not sure. |
Well I'm not sure they have an actual cut off for %. I know my program had an 80% guaranteed admission. on your sis.sfu page does it say declined or awaiting decision or what? Because it's possible that they are waiting on your final grades of the year, as well as waiting to see how much room is left in the program... they aren't going to turn you down if your 1% below someone else if there is room in the school. |
On my Sis.sfu page it says ready to enroll -.- I know they won't turn me down if there is still room, but I am afraid there might be no more room left in the program after the final grades have been put out. |
Worst comes to worst, apply for another school to attend for a semester, or take a semester off and re-apply for spring. Make sure everything is inorder/on time and you'll be fine. |
My original question was if it was possible to reapply for spring? and if i can, do i need to pay my 250$ deposit fee for a spot again? |
$250 will be refunded if you don't go for Winter, and you will have to pay the deposit again for spring yes. http://students.sfu.ca/admission/req...nts/index.html under admission average section Health Sciences 80% . That means half the people were below >80 and half were <80 for the peopel admitted last year... I'm sure you will be fine with 79% man, just to be safe, give it a bit of an extra push to get up that 1% |
i highly doubt that they wont look at your final grade, especially if you are right at the cutoff, and were above it during application. Just get it above you're guaranteed admission, although you should be fine with 79, but why risk it? |
Ok thanks alot |
How did you know they withdrew their offer of admission? Did they contact you? |
It's pretty shocking that they'd reject you for having a 79...Just ignore those fools working at SFU. They've been feeding me random crap since day one. I would call their offices and they'd have different explanations for me every time i called. I bet you'll get in just fine if you get above 80, they'll probably look at your final and send you some new email. Just wondering, did you get invited to the SFU info session that just happened recently? |
They did contact me through email that they withdrew my offer. The reason they won't look at the final grade is because too many people passed the requirement this year and they have to give them all an offer. Since they already have too many people, they can't afford to accept any more people, regardless if they made the requirement for the final grade. The stupid thing is say for my final i manage to pull my average up to a 90%, I will still lose to another who may have dropped to 70% (which is allowed once your report card mark has been checked and you are officially in). I am just really sad that they won't return my 250$ that I deposited to "save my spot". :( I talked to my counsellor today and she said that even if I apply for spring 2011 (jan-apr), the average then would be EVEN higher. fuck my life |
Im shocked, you got rejected with a 79% avg? I got in with a lower mark, and one my buddy got in with a even lower mark. are you sure that you got rejected 100%? try waiting anotehr week or 2, I got accepted on like the last week of june. If you know for sure you got rejected, and your parents wont get mad at you for not getting into uni, then just take the fall semester off. I guranteed you, you would want a huge break from school before studying in post secondary. |
damn i remember, i had 94% when i applied, and they said unconditional acceptance |

Hey everyone, thanks for the replies I am sure I got rejected 100%. It's only this year that they're being this hardcore because they have too many applicants, and they all meet the requirements. RevYouUp, do you have 79% as well? |
I had 80% 1st term and reported that and by interm i had 78.25% =[ my final mark is 80% now, i hope i get accepted, i still didnt receive the rejection email yet. Pretty retarded how they based admission only on interms, im effing pissed.. |
would it be possible to just apply for spring semester and start from there? we will just be a semester behind right? Would it also be easier to get in during the spring semester? |
that's my question too but I heard from my counsellor that the requirement for Spring will be even higher. FML |
hmm makes no sense though >.> who is gonna apply for spring semester when everyone applied for fall already. Hmmm spring semester should have a lower avg.. To op..when did you receive rejection email? |
Yesterday |
Did they send you it with a bot or did you ask if you got your offer revoked? sorry for asking so many questions op..im just shitting bricks lmao |
Know what's even more messed up? We're in a recession right now, shouldn't less people be applying for university? |
