i crossed compustar off the list because its too pricey for what i need. i dont need to pay more for the lcd and name.
i found a bunch of 2 way (lcd and non) viper systems in the u.s. for pretty cheap.
now if i buy the alarm and do not require remote start i do not need the module bypass thing do it? i drive a infiniti fx35. also i want the glass break sensor so if i buy this myself will any sensor work with the system, are they all generic?
lastly once i buy everything i need where is a good place to get it all installed. i read that the most important thing about an alarm is the install so do not want futureshop/bestbuy/visions etc... and lastly a shop/installer that wont charge me more because i did not buy the system/extras from them.
also are proximity sensors recommended or are they too flakey? | Well, as the old addage goes...you get what you pay for. A Compustar 2-way can be had for under $400 installed through our shop which is pretty reasonable considering you get lifetime warranty and nothing but the best service in the industry as well as local support and a no-questions-asked replacement policy. You will not need a bypass module.
BUT....if you chose to purchase an alarm from fleabay or something like that then we can install it for you. The drawback is that you get ZERO warranty, no product support and of course none of the safety, security and quality of Compustar. So you may save a few bucks (like $50 maybe) but you have to ask yourself if its worth it.
As for the glass sensor, we can get you one of those for around $50 installed. A proximity sensor is available but as you said they can be pretty finicky and are sometimes not totally necessary for a non-convertible car. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me.
If Coquitlam is out of your way then you could also try one of Revscene's other Sponsors like Rise Auto Salon in Richmond or Soundworks in Burnaby.

Soundsgood is barely into Coquitlam, I'd recommend seeing what they can do for you for sure. A call to their shop never hurts!

Compustar is the way to go. If you are worried about your car's security, the money will be well spent going with Compustar. The range is unbelievable compared to other 2 way alarms I've had experience with. Penetration seems to be better, too (going through brick walls and such). As for the paying for the Compustar name comment, I don't really think that's the case. Other manufacturers that produce high quality alarms with similar features charge the same. I'm sure you won't want to put an alarm purchased at XS Cargo into your Infinti.

also will any glass/proximity sensor(dei) work with the compustar systems? what if i buy a compustar elsewhere on my own and have u guys install it, will the install be warrantied? | Ok, first of all, when you call us you have to ask for Mike or Keith and quote this post. . You may have been quoted on an FM remote start system with extras included. All Revscene customers get a discount. Ya just have to talk to the right people.
You can bring your own glass break and proximity sensor and we can install them for a charge. DEI stuff works fine with Compustar. If you have a US Compustar we cannot warranty that at all. Only Canadian models can be warrantied in Canada.

wow, to save $50 but have a lame warranty is pretty....lame
your best all around bet is to get everything from one shop and have it installed there. That way you get full warranty, you don't have to screw around if something goes wrong, and you have peice of mind that everything is done right and works together.
If I was in your shoes, I'd go to SoundsGood and have them put in a compustar with their own glass/prox sensor.
for the amount of money you could potentially save, it's not worth the downsides of bringing your own stuff in and hoping it all works

peace of mind is worth a lot
I can install alarms and have installed them in my own vehicles for eons. This time around, I had Mike and his merry crew install the alarm, as I just can't bother with that shit anymore. I had one issue with the install and it was taken care of instantly the day I noticed the problem. It's nice to know I can have the alarm looked after forever......

realistically forever is pushing it. odds are one would not keep the car that long, or the shop could no longer exist as well. | Umm I don't think anyone will live til "forever"?
Compustar offers the best range and warranty, I don't know about Soundsgood's policy, but most shops, if you bring your own equipment and should something go wrong and its the fault of YOUR product, they charge you on top. For example you bought your own alarm off ebay and had it installed at Soundgood. Then for whatever reason you have a faulty "Brain" or "Sensor" you woud have to pay Soundsgood to remove the unit, then for you to ship your defective parts back to the USA, wait a few weeks with NO ALARM, when it arrives back, then pay Soundsgood again to re-install it and re-program.
Umm that alone would esily cost you over $125 of labour and shipping plus the fustration and time and the period where you have no alarm.
Example if you bought it at Soundsgood. You have a defective part, you call them, bring it in, they swap the parts out because they keep spares on hand like most good shops, and you're usually in and outa there within the hour and you're on your way and it cost you NOTHING.
Regardless where you go, buy the alarm from the place you decide to have it installed at, that way, theres no doubt in mind if and when there is an issue, they will take care of it 100%.
If you compare apples to apples, Compustar by far for the price is way cheaper than a Viper Equivalent, and with last years models reporting a 90% failure in Viper products, why would you even consider?

The only issues we have had with Proximity sensors is the fact that shitty ones are...ummm...shitty. They also need to be adjusted once or twice a year which we do as a service if you buy from us. If you get it from elsewhere, re-adjustment can cost you $30-$40 a visit.
